First, it's a TV show...not exactly sure we can just assume it's what happens in reality. Second, the richest people in the world still have personal preferences, whether that is a Rolex, Patek, or no watch. As others have pointed out, just because someone has money, doesn't mean they would spend it on any watch. My bro-in-law is at a hedge fund and has zero interest in watches.

Most of the wealthy people I know buy what they like. There are guys that have Pateks, APs, RMs, and still have Rolexes. They are great for what they are, classic, iconic, and worry-free. Who doesn't like a good deal? Drop $100K on a RM, buying a full gold Rolex for $20K is a great buy!

When the big boss stops by we talk watches and I enable him. I'm his chef at two area properties so I usually get to sit and talk with him when he's riding solo.

His most expensive piece is a RG DDII and he made a very big deal about how significant the purchase was to him.

He owns a 116613,16613, Breitling Heritage Superocean and MM300 (loved mine and had me buy one for him).

So yeah, he enjoys watches but not at the level he could be enjoying them.

He was referring to the fact that when someone is as wealthy/powerful as him, people operate around his schedule so he doesn't need to tell the time.

I love the show and really have had a hard time making out what they are wearing. Although I noticed an AP on the last episode.
How cool would it be to see some near vintage stuff! Rolex vintage stuff

Obviously I can buy both now in cash.

My point is that even if I were to become a millionaire or a billionaire I will not change what I like or who I am.

Warren Buffet wears a Rolex. If I was a billionare I would still wear it I like the shape of oyster case and bracelet more than other brands like for example Richard Mille.

Billionaire's diversity is not that different from the masses. My Dad grew up with Charles Feeney, the owner of International Duty Free Shops in airports. He wore suits from Sears and wore a Timex, and for a long time lived in his childhood home in Elizabeth, NJ.
Some spend it, some don't.

Awesome Neil!!! Yes, no matter what someone's financial wealth is people tend to wear what they like regardless of the cost. Doubtful anyone in that wealth category would be overly insecure on what other's thought.

Cheers guys, I think on this forum we become rather immune to prices and we all get carried away and enabled, but I suppose some of our collections must seem insane to most normal people even if we were billionaires. I remember dreaming of an AP many years ago when I was also normal and thinking I would never buy a piece like that... and looking back on it now it was in SS wasn't even in gold.

it certainly is all about perspective and priorities. I used to be (still am) really into motorcycles. Aside from the dangerous aspect of riding, no one would think twice if i came home with a brand new $15k motorcycle from the dealership, but most people will NEVER understand buying a $15k watch.

Myself included; I never thought I would break the $3000 marker (which is by no means "cheap"). Whoops

I hear you Chad and now you've bought that lovely AP ROO. The watch I never dreamed of buying was a much cheaper RO and yet I wouldn't have thought twice about spending 3/4 times that on a car.

Watches are jewelry. When it comes down to minute accuracy I will double check my watch with my cellphone.
I want people to notice my expensive watch, but pretend to be indifferent.
The problem is most of us want to be wealthier than we are. All my friends have SS, so I want 18k. My friends have regular, so I want Chrono.
One of my watches is good for 2000m. To get that deep I'll be wearing cement boots.
Look at the ridiculous demand for phony watches, & other luxury goods. Trying
to show you are wealthier than you really are.
Real wealth does not need to prove real wealth. At that stage you just get what you know is the quality you demand & expect for all your efforts.

And Steelo was not wearing anything special in the early seasons but now has a DD2. And look at Chumlee on Pawn Stars, must be making crazy money now.

'Stealth wealth' is very popular and the Rolex still fits in that demographic. Most people never notice what watch you are wearing anyway.
