Probably stupid question but want to ship it correctly to RSC

I understand that you need to use brown tape for the box or RSC will refuse the shipment. Here's the stupid question part - does this mean that they will refuse it if I clear tape the address label on the box? - ok, let me have it...

Just want to do it right the first time - never sent one to RSC before.

When you take the box the your post office and tell them you want to send it registered mail, they will help you out, even cover the box in brown paper tape for you. You can even look it up on the USPS website under registered mail requirements

Exactly. RSC only accepts a Registered Mail box. The box has to meet USPS requirements. They are very helpful at your local PO. I send my watches to Rikki in Florida from Virginia by Registered mail also. Every person who touches the box has to sign off for it.

The post office will require you write address on brown paper covering box. You won't be using a shipping label that needs to be taped.
You also need to use the brown tape that you moisten.

Actually just sent mine in a few weeks ago. I used regular paper tape from our mailroom and was instructed by USPS to rebox and use theirs. USPS uses their own dry tape (they moisten it manually) and they stamp every inch of that box. Probably best to box it up yourself, and ask USPS to borrow their paper tape.

Albeit not the fastest, REG MAILs do arrive safely most of the time with no issues.

No, Rolex has not adopted anything.

They only accept Registered Mail. It is the Post Office that establishes the requirements for boxes and tape.

When I needed a service Rolex sent me a box and tape. Do they still do that?

In talking with the Dallas RSC, they stated they do this for security and to keep things very discreet...they even advise this when writing out the address...just use the initials RSC....not "Rolex Service Center"

Instead of the RSC in Dallas I sent my 16570 to ABC Watchwerks in Beverly Hills because I needed a few additional things that I didn't think the RSC would do....they as well had me send it very discreetly with just "ABC Inc." on the address label.

Brian, I just sent mine to NYC in January.

If you call the RSC, they'll Email you the directions.

You can use clear tape over the address. You must use brown postal tape to seal the box.

Just as a side note. When you get your watch back from them, save the box. If any of your other watches have to go back, you can ship it in their box. I kept the box they used to ship my GMT to me in 2015 and then used that box to ship my YM this year. I just kept the empty box with the rest of my watch boxes.

If the watch is going to NYC it's addressed RUSA,

The Box. Always good to have one of these around, just in case. Sorry about the crappy photo.
