Woe be to anyone mis-nicknaming an old Explorer II; there's a white-knighting cadre' armed with pictures of Steve-O holding his coffee mug or scratching his chin and they're out there just waiting to ride in, cut you down, and trample your lousy remains with a righteous, vengeful intensity usually only observed in those who's entire family and belief system have been attacked and insulted.

It's pure comedy gold.

See, that's the funny thing. That one doesn't bother me. It's existence predates my education in Rolex, and it identifies a specific "vintage" reference. Told you, some of my rationale makes zero sense.

Yes, it can be quite entertaining at times.

No worries, likes or dislikes don't have to make sense, people just have them one way or the other. It just amuses me greatly when something that can be merely bought is taken to quasi-religious levels and therefore it's imagined some sort of sacred cow has been gored if the "wrong" moniker has been uttered.

But I also enjoy watching cats chase a meaningless laser dot around the room too.

Gotcha. Yep, my attitudes on the subject are not nearly that consistent. And who doesn't like that cat thing?

I don't mind the nicknames because most of them are created by real watch people. The word "Rollie" on the other hand bugs the living...well you know...out of me. In my humble opinion, it's for the uninformed, status-seeking watch owner.

The same can be said about car guys too.

I prefer reference numbers as its a good way for both parties (poster and reader) to learn. I don't know them all but generally a quick google search will locate it.
I get that some would rather use nicknames and not reference numbers and that's ok too.
I don't mind the nicknames but generally do not use them much. Pepsi I do use for some unknown reason. But usually with the reference number 1675 Pepsi...
The "Rollie" thing is interesting. It doesn't necessarily bother me that much but I do not use it here or anywhere else. People rarely notice my watches, but a guy at the gym the other day loudly says, "dude, is that a Roliie?" I said, "no, it is a Rolex". He just looked at me funny.

Hey, why isn't gmt blro called "superman" if LV is hulk and blnr is batman?

Also, nicknames other than pepsi coke root beer Paul Newman Panda are wack. Platona is bananas, how dare you sir!

Btw I call my LV "green sub" and my blnr a "blnr".

The word Rollie was created out of love for these timepieces. It is a way of nicknaming the brand in general. plus it sounds good. I don't see why anyone would be offended by that.
The other nicknames though do sound weird because some are not accurate at all (Batman for instance).

I refer to mine as Blnr or black and blue, but I see the logic in Batman. The Bat-suite had a black/blue Color scheme. Especially in the cartoon.

Now that I think about it, I've always enjoyed "reverse Panda" because it sounds kind of naughty...

Disagree. The word is an urban slang term used by rappers, thugs and drug dealers. It sounds ignorant and stupid. Using it certainly doesn't show a high I.Q. or intelligence, IMO.

The highlighted part is a fact. The rest is your opinion. I agree with your opinion.

Honestly it makes me a little uncomfortable when people throw out words like "urban" and "thug" with negative connotations. I know you're not trying to be racist, but just FYI those sensibilities seem a little jarring to most people under about 35.

I like them.

Hulk in Chinese is 绿水怪.
Literal translation is green water monster.

And that is just one thing of a very long list of things that are wrong with the millennial generation. I have always found it interesting the different things that make this generation feel "uncomfortable". Of course there is no truly accurate way to measure how much I don't care. If there was a way to measure it I would share that with you. Political correctness is a disease.

What sickens me is, this forum goes from cartoon references to a bunch of (insider) reference numbers....
God forbid we ever use terms like "GMT-Blue & Red" or GMT-Blue-on-Black, or "Black Stainless-Steel Submariner" or "White-face Explorer-II"

Plain English wouldn't be "exclusive" enough for many here.....

I've been wearing Rolex watches for 35 years and find anything but model names boring.

I like you say this. Because the man in your avatar, General Patton was anything BUT politically correct. If we had a POTUS that had the stones like he did, the US would be respected around the world instead of laughed at by so many world leaders!

Seems like a reminder is in order on this thread.
