Spent twenty minutes staring at my watch today..
and still didn't know what time it was when someone asked
Think I may have found 'the one' on my first attempt Enjoying the (frequent) strap changes too with the drilled lugs, will post a new thread with all the combos. |

Very nice.
Can you tell me how old this watch is please? Those hands are really showing character and experience. I quite like the look without the cyclops. |

Thanks for your very kind comments, its going to take a while to get back to all the comments. To answer the questions asked -
It is a matte dial 16800 from 1983. I bought it right here on the sales forum, the previous owner had bought it from HQ Milton. No box/papers but yes it came with the bracelet - if I could get some documentation from HQ if possible, that would be great (for insurance purposes), but I'm not worried otherwise. It is truly a stunning watch, more so in real life. Here is where I got it from - http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=446304 I think it was more expensive than other 16800s but it is also probably the best 16800 example that I have seen (in my limited search). I did post a new thread about in the Vintage Rolex forum here 3-4 months ago when I got it and it has almost become my daily wear (I used to own a bunch of <$2k watches - Sinn/Seiko/Tudor etc. and I sold most of them to get this one). http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=449392 The previous owner had the cyclops removed, I think I like the clean look as well so kept it like that. Maybe I can put it back on if I get bored (but I don't think so). |

Is it right that you used to be able to order a Sub date without a cyclops?

Its easy to remove though, and put back, in case you're thinking of it I am strongly in the #nocyclops camp, till my eyes older Also, since you asked for more pics, this is my Instagram where I post a lot of pics of this watch - https://www.instagram.com/bl0wfish89/ For some reason, the early 80s Rolexes particularly this model develop even more patina than I see on many 60s Rolexes. |

Thanks all, I'm pretty thrilled with it. Hopefully it should be a keeper Still can't put the bracelet back on easily, though strap changes are easy I'm sure I'll own more Rolex(es) in the future (after I finish grad school and start working fulltime) but this one will be special as it was obtained with a lot of effort. |
