I am contimplating the purchase of a Sub no date

**what was the last year/serial number produced for the no date with drilled lugs

All Subs had drilled lug holes until the release of the ceramic 114060 model

both Random serial and G serial were produced at the same time, either of those would qualify if you wanted the last produced examples of the 14060.

Random will be a 1 character longer modern serial/identification #

curious...why did Rolex stop incorporating drilled lug holes? I've got them on my old 1655 but never paid much attention to the feature.

I think for 2 reasons:

1) It looks more refined and classy to have no visible lug holes

2) To keep watch enthusiasts from constantly screwing around with the watches !!

PS: #2 didn't really work out for them....

That is because it is not a Sub, it is a Sub Date and those changed to no-holes around 2001.

The Sub never changed until it went ceramic.

2001, about 8 years before the ceramic Sub came out.

All this information is on forum if you just search, and it was end of Y serial late 2002 early 2003 the Non lug hole cases started to make their appearance on most models but the 14060 and 14060M always had lug holes.

Aesthetics aside, the holed case seems to be be more flexible in terms of adapting different bands. My 16610 S series came with the 93150 non SEL bracelet and I have installed both glidelock (97200) and easylink (77200) bracelets without any modifications whatsoever!

This sort of statement can confuse people..

The new 114060 ceramic was introduced in Basel in 2012 but that doesn't mean that suddenly all 14060M's were cut-off as if by magic. Since the 114060 never hit the Dealer displays until almost the end of 2012 and into 2013 for some markets, there is likely plenty of overlap as there is in all things Rolex; they likely continued the 14060M into 2013 to keep Dealers stocked and until they ran out of product.

In any event, the 14060M never came with blind lug holes, they always had pierced lugs, and that is the point of this thread.

Sorry to be confusing there, Larry....In the summer of 2012, I contacted 7 different AD's about a 14060m Submariner and was told by each the watch had been discontinued earlier in the year. The 8th dealer had what I was told was one last in stock that was transferred from Seattle to Houston for my purchase. Only speaking from experience. If memory serves me correctly, the ceramic models began to appear a few months later. Certainly don't want to be misleading to the OP....

The point is though, you could have never got one without through lug-holes so there is no point in the OP looking for one without them, regardless of the year made.

We are just seeing the question from two different view-points..

Yours is "what was the last production year for the 14060M?" - fair enough, it's replacement came out in late 2012..

Mine is "when was the last production run that the 14060M had through lug-holes?" - They all had pierced lug holes throughout production, they never stopped making them that way.

Folks want to think of all Subs as having a date.
They do not. Only the Sub Date has a date. Subs don't.
