Congrats! You won't regret it. My first one went on my wrist at 18, 25 years later it is still there along with a few others. The first one is always the first one.

Ha! When I was 17, I would have spent all of that money on a car. Different strokes for different folks. Congrats on the new watch!

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the replies and advice. To the people who spent their money on cars, the experience of driving a fun car is unmatched. I love my car and because of that, I spent my money on a rolex instead of a new car(that comes later.) I realize buying a rolex at 17 is financially stupid, but buying a rolex at any time in life is financially stupid

To the person who suggests I go to college and such, I'm not interested in any careers that require me to go to college. I love building computers and working on them, I love cars, however those are hobbies. I think being a police officer would be great because everytime you go to work you aren't sure whats going to happen. Sure, the pay isnt great, but with clever investments and solid financial skills I'll manage. I have already invested 10% of my paycheck into the bank.

P.S: The rolex is on the truck for delivery!

Hi everyone, I tried posting this earlier but my message hasnt appeared yet. Sorry if this is a repeat.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. While I agree a Rolex isnt a smart financial move, I believe it is smarter to buy it now while I'm not paying taxes or a house. To the person who said I should persue my education, I like to build computers and I love cars. However, these are hobbies. I want to become a police officer because you never know what is going to happen every time you come in for work. I know the pay isnt great, but with sound investments and smart financial planning I can buy things I enjoy. I am already saving 10% of my paycheck.

Enough talk! Pictures wont embed so I'm adding a link.

Bought my first at 17 thirty years ago. A 16550 polar Explorer II for $1,360. Kudos on your first, very admirable, keep the watch forever. Looking forward to the pics.

Alec,

The watch looks great!! I know it's something that you'll cherish forever and hopefully will one day turn into a family heirloom and maybe start the next generation on an appreciation of fine watches. Congratulations, and be careful out there!

Can feel your enthusiasm clearly, can't imagine what kind of crazy collection you will have amassed before you're even 30.

Congrats and welcome! That is a great looking GMT master. Sure, it may not be the wisest investment at your age.. but it's something you'll have years down the road and perhaps pass on to your (possible future) children. It will be there for whatever life's adventures come your way. I bought mine when I was 26 after a nice hard earned bonus from work and I could not dream of selling it. Will I add another? not sure.. maybe someday. I do have a G-shock to compliment my sub when I know I'm doing something that really could damage the watch. Again congrats & wear it in good health!

PS - Do think of insuring the watch. Folks around here speak highly of Jewlers mutual. Should anything happen to it, it's peace of mind to be covered.

congrats alec. i remember staring at a rolex brochure when i was 13 or 14 wondering what the difference was between a sub and a sea dweller. i remember dreaming of how cool it would be to own one. i wasn't motivated or smart enough to work and save for one by 17! like most here, i was more interested in girls. big congrats to you alec. enjoy and hang on to it forever

Hey forgot to ask, is $6500 a good price for this watch? It was never worn, only tried on at an AD. It came with box and papers, however no warranty.
