As soon as the DSSD was introduced at Basel 2008, the old SD began being phased out.

I bought mine from my local AD on an M serial and the inner ring is plain. I am sure at this late stage they will not add the engraved inner ring

If the watch is discontinued, why is it still on the website? Does anyone know whether the the old GMT was still on the websit after the new SS was released? My dealer just got a new M series in from Rolex.

I believe the SD is still on the Rolex site because it's still being phased out. Probably, Rolex still has a lot of SD cases.

Just picked mine up this week from my AD(M series). He tells me that he will not see another unless he's very lucky. So If you want one grab one now.

Its worth bearing in mind that the old GMT was produced in greater numbers that the SD was and now everybody wants a 16710....A lesson there I think.

Is that right? Its not officially been stopped? Lots of people who have been snapping them up will be crossing their fingers then!

But definitely no official anouncement from Rolex though? I might not have to rush as much as I thought I would!

I think it will be a long wait if we all expect Trevor Mc Donald to anounce on news at 10 that Rolex have discontinued the SD!

Got my M series a few weeks ago; no engraving.

I would think Rolex's rationale in not engraving the SD, like they do the other models, is that such a cosmetic feature would be totally inconsistent and at odds with the professional, utilitarian, serious and no-nonsense nature of the Sea Dweller.

I think an engraved Sea Dweller would look a bit incongruous and silly.

It is kind of like engraving an M-16 Rifle . . . .

When I bought my Sub a couple of months ago I asked if the SD "was being discontinued or anything", because I almost bought it instead, and they said no. This AD is also a RSC apparently so I don't know if some know what most don't or if it's a rumor or what have you?

In my honest opinion, Rolex would be foolish to discontinue the current SD.

At just a little over HALF the price of DSSD, there are many professional divers out there who would be more than happy with the underwater capabilities of the present SD. It is a time-proven muscle watch and has never failed.

It is absolutely capable of 4,000+ feet where the pressure is mind-boggling. It sits just right on the wrist and its 40 mm diameter is perfect for vitually any sized wrist.

Why spoil a good thing?

JJ
