with the tritium dial and of course the lumen is no longer visible.what will rolex do at service time?replace the dial?I would really like to keep the original dial-but I still would like it to light up again.what would have to be done?is there any competent watch companies out there that are re-luming tritium dials?or replace the tritium with luminova?
give me an idea on what will happen.
cheers,
steve

No, I don't think they can re-lume that tritium dial.
Keep your original dial, don't let 'em change with new dial.
For the record, I sold my 1675 because RSC here want to change the dial if I want to service it. So
I sold it.

From what i've heard the US RSC they are going to keep the dial and replace it with a superluminova dial.

If you want to keep you original dial and hands better find a qualified watchmaker that can get you a fresh superluminova dial and superluminova hands and he will make the swap and give you back the original dial and hands

Steve,
If you really want the lume to glow again I'd personally get the watch serviced at one of the independent Rolex service centers you have in the states.
Then you should be able to get the dial and hands changed for new luminova ones, but keep your original dial and hands (correct me if I'm wrong on that Mike!).
Then you get to put your old dial and hands set back on if you want to later.
DON'T have the lume redone it will ruin your dial!

Rolex shouldn't change the dial/hands unless you ask them to as long as they are in sound condition, but they will not let you keep the original items if they do replace them.

Steve,

Rolex does not re-lume dials, rather as stated will want to replace the dial/hands with current Superluminova replacements. After evaluating the watch, they will recommend (or require depending on their evaluation of the condition of the markers) a new dial/hand set.

If recommended, service will be completed with the originals intact. If required, service will NOT be preformed and the watch sent back.

Sadly in the states service replacement dials are put in on an exchange basis--whether RSC, Independent, or private watchmaker (unless he has a way around RSC mandates).

Generally a relumed dial will have an impact on the value of a watch. As tritium is no longer used, any relume will be with Superluminova. If a relume is a course you want to pursue, the issue is to find someone competent at the task.

I have heard nothing but good about Jack at IWW,

http://www.angelfire.com/blues/andca...Firstpage.html

Though I stress I have NO personal dealings in this regard. Jack does have the capability of "coloring" the lume to give an aged look if that's a consideration. Examples I've seen in photos appear very well done, and customers indicate a lot of satisfaction. There is that valuation issue though...

I would send it to the independent RSC San Francisco. If the Tritium does not risk flaking off, I am sure they will honour your request to leave the original dial and hands on the watch. You won't get the lume back but at least the watch will be untouched and kept original.
