Tips on getting on the Waitlist for Rolex

I'm relatively young and new to the watch world, so this is my first time experiencing Rolex's major updates to their lineups.

I've been saving up for a Royal Oak Jumbo 15202 ST, but after I saw the cerachrom white daytona, I had a change of heart.

For the Rolex veterans out there, could you guys give me some tips so I can purchase the white daytona within 2016?

I purchased my first rolex sub 114060 at an official boutique in Osaka, Japan, so I have a relationship with them. However, they won't start accepting waitlists until they receive their first shipment.

Thank you very much for your help.

Lastly, I'm wondering if my new daytona purchase will completely replace my moon watch. If that happens, would it be better for me to sell at a 30-40% depreciation, or just keep it? Thank you again.

The first watch I wanted was the original green anniversary sub. I had no relationship with any AD and basically called up all within driving distance and asked to be put on the list. Its been awhile so I can't remember exactly how long I waited but I think it was around 15 months, but I did get a call and purchased it eventually. Funny thing was about 4 months later I got a call from another AD.

If you are set in getting it in 2016 you will either have to cast a wide net and put your name on a lot of lists and hope to get lucky or be willing to pay a premium. If you can be patient there will eventually be one for sale with your name on it.

People put their names on the list all the time if no deposit is required, and often will not buy because they already got the watch or the time is not right when the call actually comes. You never know except you won't get a call if you aren't on the list.

Good luck!

Just pay a premium (10~20%) may help you land one this year.

I'll agree by saying contact many ADs and see what you can do. If you haven't bought from them, then buying/overpaying for other watches/jewelry will move you up the list. I'd just be patient

Money solves everything! Just buy the first one for well-over list price when it hits TRF.

Buy watches from the same ad and then they give your preferential treatment. Cash is king.

Depends how well you can time it - the dealer in ICN doesn't have a list but will hold a piece for a day. So if you call them at the right time and buy a cheapo return flight somewhere, you can pick it up from the airport.

Hi, thank you for your response. Do you mean dealer at the ICN airport? I didn't know we had a rolex boutique at Incheon airport.

From an official boutique? I don't feel comfortable buying it from a grey market.

Tips on getting on the Waitlist for Rolex

I don't know if all the wait list stuff is true or not. I'm sure every AD knows who their first 5-10 are going to already. IMHO everyone else is getting lied to. If you really want one pay a premium and you will get one. Simple as that. Money talks. I don't know a ton about AD working but my family has been in the new car business for years. My stepfather always sold hot new models to those willing to write the biggest checks at first or those that buy multiple cars a year. Either way it only boils down to one thing and that's MONEY!!!!! To be first you have to spend a lot of it.

First of all, welcome to TRF!

Well, since your local boutique's rules are such that there isn't a waiting list yet, it couldn't hurt to keep in touch with them so you can get on the list as soon as it's open.

As for selling your speedy, unless you need the cash, I think it would make a great trio with the sub and the white dialed daytona.

Good luck!

Yup, money talks.

Lots of $ spent = good relationship

Good relationship = easier to get hot items.

I recommend keeping the Moonwatch...it is a great part of any collection and has the retro look, feel, and history.

Ok, so I have to tell my story.... I was born in a barn- Oh, don't need to go that far back...

It was late in the year of 2007, and the SS Daytona craze was hitting on all cylinders, I was thinking about selling the souls of my future children to the devil to get one (mine was deemed by him as not up to standards ) when I walked in to my AD and asked the (very pretty) associate for a SS Daytona she laughed; nicely of course. I had purchased two SS watches from them, I think a GMT and Explorer. Anyway, I got the response I figured I would but in talking with her, I found out she loved Godiva chocolates. Well, wouldn't you know it, the very next day she had a box of Godiva chocolates delivered to her at the store! Hmmm.... wonder who sent them? It was not the only box, on the contrary, she got them every few weeks or so. Around Christmas, I sent her a card that read: "Dear Santa, all I want for Xmas this year is for ..... to find me a SS Daytona." She also got a singing telegram... a guy in a monkey suit (no kidding! ). Finally, around the First of the year, she called me and said she would "see what she could do"

Well, on February 1st, she called and said it was here, hurry up before anyone else knew about it. THAT is how I got my first grail

To this day, I bring her chocolates now and then, and she has sold me another three Rolexes. She says I'm first on the list for the Ceramic, and I believe her.

Thank you for your reply. I don't need the extra cash, but I wouldn't want my moon watch to just collect dust. I hope I have the discipline to alternate between watches.

I think the moment I purchase the white cerachrom daytona, I think I'll probably only wear that one for the rest of my life.

Best piece of advice: Buy one when the flippers make their move primo / ultimo 2016.

WOW!!! SO SMOOTH!!! I know you are married, but I'm sure you are very well-versed in those scenarios.

In Korea, if I sent a chocolate to a female rolex employee they'd either think I'm a stalker or a guy who's trying too hard... LOL

Well, I'm no where near as smooth as you, but I'll try my best to be on a good side. Maybe I'll ask her out for a beer... HAHA

I can't believe I'm doing all this just for a SS cerachrom daytona...

What do you mean by buying one primo/ultimo 2016?
