Inks

Well (all puns intended), there has been a lot of discussion about fine fountain pens on this forum. What about fine inks?

I for one have a couple of preferences. I keep my MB loaded with MB black ink (I don't want to risk it with any others).

For the rest of my collection, I'm a bit more experimental. I used to use Parker blue-black as a standard day-to-day "plonk" however I have recently discovered Diamine inks. These come in a fabulous spectrum of colours. The ones I have tried so far all flow beautifully from any pen I've used them in (vintage and modern), dry reasonably quickly, don't fade too much and leave a really nice line on a variety of papers. My favourite at the moment is green-black. It's "formal" enough for me to feel comfortable using it at work on stuff colleagues will see but, at the same time, adds some individual flair. The colour looks equally excellent on white work paper and the off-white paper of my journals at home. As an added bonus, it dries to almost exactly the same colour as a Rolex box.

What does everybody else favour... and why?

MB Royal Blue is my favorite. I'd like to try the toffee brown color but I haven't quite gotten around to picking a container (well?) up yet.

I only use MB inks though- it's a little conservative but I know that my 149 won't get caked up with a funky ink.

For my MB I use MB Midnight Blue. For my other pens it's a crap shoot, Diamine, Noodlers, de Atramentis, Love the Pilot Iroshizuku inks, have three of those with my all time favorite being their Ku-Jaku (peacock). I switch inks between my pens depending on my mood when I fill them. For some, I like to stick to a color that matches the pen, others, I don't care. Rarely do I use black in any pen.

With all the manufacturers producing ink and their color spectrums available…there is definitely a color for everyone and all occasions. I happen to be partial right now to using MontBlanc's Oyster Gray, Bordeaux(discontinued) and Toffee Brown…..

Of course everyone one has their favorites, including brands and I am using converters in the FP's so I can change ink colors whenever I feel like it!!!

One of my all time favorites is Delta Blue. Very, very hard to acquire, but I happened to pick of a few bottles as Christmas gifts a year or two back so my infatuation is satisfied for the moment.

My second is not nearly as rare, but I love the Noodler's Squeteague.
