Thx a lot for yr input guys. I think my friend was referring to the black dial version, which has been produced in a limited amount compared to the blue dial. Does anybody maybe have numbers and how does that reflect the current price?

AFAIK the blue dial 5980 was produced between 2006 and 2013, the gray dial 5980 was produced between 2010 and 2013, and the white dial in 2012 and 2013 only. So if you're looking for a truly rare 5980, the white dial is your best bet. Especially since it wasn't a bit hit among collectors or regular watch shoppers either.

But don't expect anyone to have actual sales numbers. Only Patek knows. However, in the case of a model that wasn't a big market hit and was only produced for cca. 2 years (white 5980), I think it's safe to assume only a few hundreds were sold.
