It was a little rough. More so for the wife than I. But neither one of us are as young as we used to be!! We missed the church bells this morning.

I know the feeling from yesterday. I'm 53 now and somewhere in my mid-40's I adopted the mantra of "I'm too old to use party as a verb anymore", yet once or twice a year my judgement slips and I pay for it dearly. Hangovers are worse and last longer as I get older.

Great dinner of Brazilian BBQ a couple evenings ago with a buddy from out of town. He generously brought a 2000 Sine Qua Non The Boot while I brought a 2008 Corra Cabernet. The SQN was in a great place, and the oldest SQN white I've had to date. The Corra was classic, pedigreed Napa cab that my buddy (and I) both dig in general.

We were having such a jolly time that neither of us thought to take a pic of the bottles we were having......DOH!

Enjoying a '09 Chappellet Chardonnay while we wait for the lobster imperial, crab stuffed mushrooms and asparagus to come off the grill.

Byron 2012 Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley

Tonight's Delight w/ a Salmon Dish...

Winemaker's Notes:

Not long ago the Santa Maria Bench was grasslands- a pristine stretch of emerald green in the winter and alchemy gold in the summer. That all changed in 1964 when Uriel Nielson planted Santa Barbara County's first commercial vineyard.

The Byron Estate is located on the site of Mr. Nielson's original plantings. For the past two decades they have experimented to find the best clones, rootstock, trellising and farming protocols for their cool climate and benchland soils. They produce small quantities of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from our estate and other exceptional vineyards throughout the Santa Maria Valley.

Our 2012 Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay displays fruit-forward citrus aromas, accented by hints of mineral and brown spice. On the palate, it is richly textured with stone fruit, fig, honey, spice and minerals. The wine is styled to highlight the vivid aromas and flavors of our cool climate fruit. The wine is 100% barrel fermented with 100% malolactic fermentation. Additional layers of complexity are achieved through sur lie aging and weekly hand stirring of the barrels, known as batonage. Native yeasts, which contribute silkiness and depth to the wine, are used on selected lots to round out the final blend.

Saturday night. Fun food, great wine, rock music.
This time:
Traditional Quiche Lorraine and a garden salad.
2007 Rosemount 'Show Reserve' "Traditional" (Cab Sav, Merlot, Petite Verdot) from McLaren Vale in South Aust. One of those wines that benefits from ageing.
The Beatles (Please Please Me), Rolling Stones (Beggars Banquet), & Jethro Tull (Rock Island).

Had this one tonight. A very nice white bordeaux with notes of citrus fruit and pear. Very refreshing and delicious!

Simply...The Wine Thread

Picked this up at Costco tonight and it is a very nice wine in the $12 range. Not as heavy as a Cab and not as light as a Merlot.
I would recommend you give it a try!

2013 Columbia Crest "H3" Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon
https://www.columbiacrest.com/our-wi...rnet-sauvignon

This bold Cabernet opens with flavors of black cherries and blackberries with a touch of currants and vanilla,
complemented by earth and mineral notes. Deep berry flavors lead to a soft tannin cocoa finish.

Good Afternoon wine people
Below is wine I was able to pick up for shipment to Brasil. Small production but really good stuff.. Amazingly priced for the quality, and the first 2 are crazy good special IMO

^^ less then 1400 cases produced. Buccella in Latin = Mouthful, so you know this is a full body experience. This will be a classic. Easy 20 years aging on this

^^Very small batch, exceptional wine.^^
490 cases only, cuvee made by Mark Herold (formally from Joseph Phelps, Hestan and had his own label too.)

^^ This is a great every evening Cabernet from Alexander Valley, Sonoma. Grown at a higher elevation and you can't beat the price at <20.00US wholesale. About 5300 cases produced. Just a great value.

This vineyard was my 1st taste of Merlot many many years ago.

Cheers !! Ratings are subjective so if you see these wines please try them. All are 2 thumbs up for me.
