First Mont Blanc

I am a Finance Manager in the car business, and I am looking for my first really good pen. I'm actually looking for a Mont Blanc. Any suggestions for a first one?

I suggest going to a pen store and trying out the different Pens. I personally found that a MB 146 is perfect size for my hand and feels great. The 149 too big, the 145 way to small, but the 146...perfect!

Do you know if you want fountain pen, ballpoint or rollerball? If your using it at your desk to sign documents, ballpoint might be best. With fountain pens each nib lays a specific line.

For a fountain pen nib I actually have two on my desk, one a 146 Mont Blanc with fine nib for general use and signing and a Sailor medium sized with an extra fine (very thin) Japanese nib for editing documents, and when extra thin line warranted.

Earlier writer's editions are beautifully understated and very classy. They will convey that you are good and professional but not too flashy and flaunting to your clients as you try to sell them all the add ons in the finance office.

I just bought a Ballpoint Meisterstuck Le Grande a few months back and I cannot recommend it enough! It feels amazing in the hand and looks really classy. Can't go wrong in a Montblanc.

Bought my first Mont Blanc ballpoint almost 25 years ago. In 3 years it will go to my youngest son at college graduation. Guess I'll be shopping for my second one then.

Good luck in your search.

No expert here but I do have one Montblanc as pictured. As with watches, you might want to check on grey market dealer sites for price comparison purposes (e.g. http://www.jomashop.com/mont-blanc.html )

As 68camaro suggested…do your homework and go to a few pen stores and check out their inventory. There are many fine pens out there to choose from and from multiple companies who make fine quality products. Check out the pens by writing with them and see how they feel and fit into your writing style…..

Don't rush in and be impulsive…take your time and check them out. Do you know whether you want a ball point, rollerball or a fountain pen???

Take care…..Leo

Thank you. I'm leaning towards a ballpoint.

If it is going to be in your shirt pocket I would suggest an MB Classic. It is very comfortable without pulling at the pocket and it is comfortable in the hand.

I had a similar dilemma to yourself and had it in my head I wanted a MB ballpoint.

That was of course, until I actually went in to a boutique and tried them all out.

(This is just my opinion)....

In the boutique I used the ballpoint for about 3 seconds when I thought to myself, this could be a 99p BIC as it just did not feel or look special enough.

For me, I went rollerball route. The ink just looks nicer/more special on the page. I decided on a Meisterstuck Le Grand. To me, it has the classic MB look.

Whatever you decide, best of luck and I look forward to an incoming.....

I'm considering buying that same one from Jomashop.... What's your review of the pen?

Hi Tommy

I work in a hospital and always have 2 pens with me.

The regular use one: started with a fountain pen but that didn't last long due to the amount of usage. I mean I could easily write 1-2 pages per patient x 10+ per day....
- I like not to have to put too much pressure when writing
- sometimes I had to lend it to patients or relatives to use it and most dint know how to use a fountain pen. It was painful.. So I now use a normal $2 fineliner!

However I do like to have a good pen too. Some of our paperwork need enough pressure to get through the 2-3 copy pages bellow the original

So I started with starwalker platinum fineliner (the one with the cap) loved it heaps but the refill wouldn't last more than 1 week... So put a rollerball refill. Better but again it didn't last long enough.

I'm now on the market for a ballpoint pen. The JFK rollerball and a 146 rollerball made it to my top 2.

Stil a work in progress

I hope my experience is of any help

Cheers
Ken

Yes, I always enjoy reading about others and their personal experiences when it comes to opinions on 'Writing Instruments,' companies who manufacture ink and everyones' preferences and choices for ink colors and all other accessories(I happen to really like mechanical pencils & drafting pencils as well)!!!

You are never too old/young to learn…..

Listen... Let's make it very simple...!

With your career as a finance manager, I would highly recommend a MB ballpoint in a 146. It won't cost you a fortune... about $200.00 and will retain its value.

Two things....

1. It stands out as a Montblanc to anyone who knows quality. There will be a time when some of your customers will recognize the significance.

2. Its resale value will not diminish. You will be able to trade up for a better version without having to worry about losing $$$.

There is just something about that White Snow Cap! Montblanc MAKES a STATEMENT about you.

Wear it proudly as someone who know quality.

I wish you well!!

Richard
