Hi all - I'll be traveling to Switzerland for some business and will be in Interlaken and Locarno as I've already seen there is a Rolex boutique in each location. 😏

Qu for you experts out there - I'm looking for the Daytona C so would it better to buy it in Switzerland (if available) or in the uk and then claim the vat back?

Is it possible to claim vat if buying in Switzerland but your residence is non-Europe?

I was just there last month.

If they even have one, you will likely be paying full retail as I found no discounts. Combine that with the massive amount of Chinese buyers and IMHO it would not be worth it.

I live near Locarno and I emailed all of the Rolex ADs in Switzerland for the Daytonas C and unless you've got special relationships or connections it's impossible to get it. They all said they have a long waiting lists and especially Bucherer doesn't accept any more names to their list. Good luck anyway

Amsterdam is 21% VAT return, with immediate refund return @ Schipol.

Most other places in EU are around 11% return, and over one month refund return, if it happens.

Take pictures of your receipts after customs stamp w/CC info.

Did Bucherer ever had any lists? (I would be really pissed...)
I went to them on March 16th, the day it was announced, and then every few weeks again, but they've always claimed they would not do any lists...

Not true, in Italy i claimed full 22% VAT when leaving country. Funds are transferred to credit card within 3 weeks.

Italy is not Amsterdam.
In Schiphol you don't have to claim VAT back, watches are already priced as such.

Agree, instead of Switzerland (and have been to both locations you mentioned), Italy or Amsterdam is a better bet. In Italy you might even find a dealer that discounts a bit :)

I don't know with the oil pricing issues how strong the Riyal is right now but currency exchange is always a big part of buying a watch overseas.

The CHF is relatively strong right now compared to the Euro. If you can, hop on a train in Locarno and go to Milano for the shopping. The watch dealers on the via Monte Napoleone are willing to deal. I was in the Rolex boutique there a couple weeks ago and was offered a very fair price on a Sea Dweller without even pushing for it.

Don't count on finding a DaytonaC.

It depends on where you buy from and who is used for refund agency. For example: global blue VS premier. Google it for specifics.

The reason I said 11% is because it's generally the reduced rate and should be assumed, in my expierence and I buy a lot of stuff/travel often, ...because GB or Premier take the rest.

If you want cash, yes instant at airport.

Heathrow for credit you have to mail and wait. Just did it about five weeks ago. Two items recieved vat last week, three to go, and one of three had to be mailed out of UK because purchased in Paris--different location for proof of receipt and customs stamp.

I was in Luzern last week and enquired at Bucherer for the Daytona C. They had none in as yet and the day before they sent the prototype back on the 6th June, it was my 40th on the 7th and I said if you had one I would buy it.

The salesman was called Martin and from Ireland, nice chap and said they don't have waiting lists and they serve the locals first. Fair enough.

Given that I live in Zurich, I've done some buying Rolexes in Switzerland. I doubt you will find the new Daytona to be readily available here to be honest. VAT is 8%, most AD's will help you in recovering that as you leave the country (in some shape or form, be it Globalblue or similar)

No. Most places in EU are 100% of VAT return, if your merchant wants to participate. I never use VAT reclaim agents, they are a ripoff plain and simple.
I get my refunds within a day or two, this is up to the merchant where you bought the products from.
