Help with Speedmaster Purchase
I'm thinking of buying a Speedmaster , there are so many models I thought I'd asked the experts before taking the plunge. I have narrowed it down to 2 (i think)
1) ref 3570.50 Moon watch or 2) ref 3507.51 Micheal Schumaker edition , black with white subdials. Which one would you recommend for first speedmaster or any other suggestions |

Hi Peter!
Well... first of all, great that you are contemplating on getting a Speedy! Imho the best place to start is the classic (current) Speedmaster 3570.50... The original Speedy is something of "a must"... and a true legend!!!!! The way I started out years ago was... well, I went completely vintage, and after I got the original cal. 321 models in, I crawled my way up to the more recent outings... But the current "original" 3570.50 will just do nicely!!! As for the "Schumi"... they sure are gorgeous watches, and the 3507.51.00 you've mentioned is really nice! You'll first have to narrow it down a bit... like: - Do you like a manually (hand-) wound watch (3570.50) or do you prefer an automatic (3507.51.00)? - Does history (NASA for example) play an important part in your decision? If so, then I'd say the 3570.50 would be your choice (out of the current offerings). Movement-wise the cal. 1861 (that drives the 3570.50) is one of the most classic and rugged chronograph movements out there! I'm sure you'll do your math... and get the one that speaks to you the most! Both are great watches... With best regards Petros P.S. And as for other suggestions...: well... vintage vintage all the way!!!! A real "Moonwalker" with cal. 321 (either 105.003, 105.012 or 145.012) would be the epitome of a historic watch...!!!

Peter, have you also thought about a sapphire sandwich e.g. 3573.50?

Thanks Guys for the great info. Because I have a number of watches (as most of us do) the speedmaster would only be worn sometimes so manual wind wouldn't worry me .
I'll also check out a 3573.50 Thanks again for taking the time to respond |
