I have to agree. The studio bit just felt like they were trying a bit too hard.
The videos although good were just more of what has already been done. It's wasn't Clarkson & co that were tired IMO it was the format. They were out of ideas. This was the perfect opportunity to do something new but they have unfortunately tried to keep the status quo. Shame. |

This was their reaction following the airing of last night's show.

I can't watch it out here and I wouldn't have if I was home. I can't be doing with that pillock Chris Evans.
The reviews I've read so far are pretty much what I expected.

im still reeling ,,, all they did was change the color of the lighting wash in the same studio , with the same format same running order , to be fair , and i never thought id type this ,,, Matt Le Blanc actually did the best out of the three ,, he was right up there at poor to average.

Also, i was a big 'old' TG fan and during the latter series not every episode was great, some far from it and this was years into the 3 presenters honing their skills and finding their place on the show. The new programme was ok, it was enjoyable but far from great, it was not a classic TG by any means, but as I have said through the years there has been many of them and then, every so often, a peach of an episode, give 'em a chance. |

I thought the show was fine. I honestly don't know what the fuss is about.

Chris Evans
He began his career as a teaboy and has done rather well, although he's not to everyone's taste though as you will have gathered from this thread. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Evans_(presenter) |

I drank so much wine to forget last nights episode and you bring it back to me!!
Yes it was bad, will not watch it again. I am however quite excited for the new show with Jeremy, James and Richard, probably more excited than I should be. |

Subscribed to Amazon Prime largely to catch the new show. Will give the new TG hosts a look when it hits BBC America. Chris Evans certainly has been getting really lousy pre-show PR.
Just be glad that most of you on this thread aren't stuck with the American TG. |

It just broadcast here in the U.S.
There is a reason all the TG spin offs around the world petered out. Jeremy, James and Richard just have a chemistry that is so enjoyable and none of the others including this new show have it. Overall the show was pretty grimm. |

I just watched it here in the US. It wasn't perfect but far from trash. When they started the new one in the states it was awkward at first with new people learning how to work together. Now, a few seasons in, they have some chemistry and it's a bit of fun. It will take some time too. Nonreacing the old crew but still a fun show. I'm in.

TG appears in US on BBC America channel with the 2016 debut on Wed 6/1 @ 7:30 ET. AmazonPrime streams worldwide so watching the old trio is available everywhere I figure.

Well, it's been a while since the debut. Any thoughts?
Mine are. Who ever was negative to Chris Evans enjoyableness was correct. He's loud and obnoxious. The rest of the show was a run of the mill boring car show. See car, drive car, talk about car. |

Bring back clarkkson and may! I was never a fan of Hammond, always seemed like he has to try too hard to be "funny"

I have watched all 3 episodes well to be honest I have watched about 15 minutes of each of the 3 episodes. I have either become annoyed bored or fallen asleep each time.
Out of all the new presenters Matt Leblanc is the best of a bad lot but that's not saying much. Top gear was always set to record on my TiVo box but this one is not. |

Unfortunately I am (was) one of Chris Evans' biggest fans.
The studio bits are sometimes painful to watch, he's just trying too hard - that's not what he's normally like. Matt Le Blanc is coming across extremely well. The challenges so far have been a little pointless and not that great but the actual 'car' bits they've done have been very enjoyable and the cinematography superb! I think Matt Le Blanc and Chris Harris duo would be a significant improvement and perhaps Chris could / should take a back seat. |

Only watched the first one and was disappointed though not really surprised. The original format was always going to be a hard act to follow, and whilst some aspects of it may have needed a refresh, it was still very watchable and one of the BBCs most popular programmes. Would not surprise me if at some point in the future, an approach is made by the BBC to Clarkson.........might sound a big over optimistic, but stranger things have happened!

After three episodes, count me a fan. I think Chris Evans has the personality to bring off the show. Clarkson and the boys get their own show and we get The Stig, BBC money and Sabina. I could do with Chris Evans, though, he's a great driver.
But after three, I've subscribed on iTunes. |
