Montblanc ballpoint question?!

So maybe I'm over thinking things and it's all in my head but I switched back from a Medium point cartridge to a Broad and I feel that when I twist the pen to push the NIB out from the in casing of the pen it's not as smooth as it was before? Should it be smooth as butter so significant resistance? I can still twist the pen open but it's a little more resistance than normal. Or it could be that I never noticed the resistance on the pen. Also I do tend to tighten the pen pretty well. Idk if that has an impact on this? Thanks!

I do not mean to sound rude or pick on you but how does a ballpoint pen have a nib???

If you think the cartridge you put in is causing tightness when you turn(twist) the barrel...then try another refill and see if the same condition happens!!!

Sorry, I figured nib was a universal term for the tip of a ballpoint.
I think I might have figured it out, I think it was cross threaded. Thanks though!!

I wouldn't worry about it. If the point deploys and retracts with the twist it should be fine.

If you twist the pen and the point stays out, then you have issues.

cpark, it was just some of my thoughts on the subject of nibs and of course I could easily be wrong. I'm still learning after 60 plus years…..

I'm glad you were able to figure out what had gone wrong and were able to correct the situation without hurting your pen…..happy writing!!!

My starwalker midnight ballpoint feels a little "gritty" sometimes when I remove the section and reinstall. I've attributed this to the spring not seating correctly and binding up a little. The spring is tapered on my pen. Maybe try removing and reseating until it seats better?

I've been using a Montblanc 164 ballpoint since 1996. I have two of them one gold and one in platinum and sometimes I switch the cartridges between Broad and medium never used fine but I have not noticed any difference in operation of turning barrel to release the nib.

According to Montblanc the only difference in the cartridges are the actual ball diameter & size of the opening for which the ink is expelled. Different sizes for Broad, Medium & fine point. Should not affect the operation of the mechanism.

That's good advice!! I never thought of that!! Next time I have the "gritty" feeling with my pen I'll try that!!
