I've noticed a Montblanc trend here....

It seems like you guys all have MB fountain pens. I have a montblanc ballpoint but no MB FP just yet. What I've read is modern montblanc nibs are light on flex/line variation. Any truth to this? I believe the nib on my montegrappa was made by montblanc and it's a great nib but doesn't flex too much. I would really like to add a MB to my collection one day but I'm hoping for a little flex in the nib. Please let me know what you guys think

I have a ballpoint MB also as i find it more practical for everyday use. Of course, a fountain is the real thing.

Not sure I really understand the nib flex thing but I use two MB 146's exclusively at home and at work, one is their Anniversary editions and the second is a regular 146. Each has fine point and each writes a little different. I also use a Sailor with a ultra fine nib for for spreadsheet and document changes.

I have other MB's that I've lost and my experience all nibs are not created 100% equal. I would just go out and test different pens to see what you like. My wife's Visconti with steel nib writes incredibly also. Also ink you choose does matter, I prefer Waterman Black.

Not sure if this helps but MB pens, in general, have heavier line than comparable Japanese nibs, hence my use of Japanese pen (Sailor) for real fine writing.

Montblanc pens are not know for their flex.

You could pick up a MB and then have a nibmeister work it for the amount of flex you are looking for. I would also have an oblique or italic grind put on it at the same time and then the line variations would be astonishing.

My Compliments!

That's a great idea. I didn't consider sending one off to a nibmeister to work the nib for more line variation. I suppose I can pick up any one that looks the nicest and go that route. What's the opinion of the urban speed? It's been growing on me. More of a modern look but I like it.

My 4 MB FPs all write different with next to no to a fair, but small amount of line variation. My Delta on the other hand has quite a bit of line variation. I am considering adding a few other brands of FPs in the future but those are all I can comment on at the moment. As stated each is different and I very much prefer my higher end limited edition nibs to the standard production ones.

I bought my first MB Fountain pen yesterday so I am still getting used to writing with it.
it's very nice and I am enjoying the learning curve. I haven't a huge amount of experience with fountain pens in general and certainly nothing of this quality.
I got the Meisterstuck Solitaire Blue Hour LeGrand due my love of all things blue.
It's a very beautiful pen and changes so much in different lighting conditions, not unlike the way a Rolex sunburst dial does.

I found a Montblanc that I had no idea existed. Looks like it's made of green celluloid with a 14kt nib. The guy wants a ton of money for it but I would love to get my hands on one of these! Says it's a 144 masterpiece. Sounds rare to me Anyone Have some information about these??
