Rolex 1675 pricing!

So, I've been keeping an eye out for a nice 1970's 1675 GMT Master. Is it me or are the prices of these pieces really starting to sky rocket. Found these two examples of watches.co.uk that look nice but not for nearly £10k, that's Red Sub money. I'd also venture that the second one is a service dial and they still want £8k for that. What say you???????

Well, they can ask whatever they want. Whether anybody actually buys at what's clearly an insanely high price (i.e. well over double market value ) is a completely separate issue.

Mind you, maybe that price won't seem so crazy if the GBP continues its rapid decline.

The second one is not a service dial but a Mark V dial.

So, if that first example is accurately described how far off is the asking price? I have an inclination that the description is a bit carefully constructed but if this were a complete set, original, in what is made to appear near new looking that the asking price wouldn't be so far off.

wait for one on ebay.......a decent one will pop up once or twice per quarter....i would think you can get an auction one for around 7k with return capability if need be. That is where i would go.....otherwise you pay top dollar elsewhere.

I don't know where the pound, euro or other currencies are due to fluctuations.

What I do know is - nice, original, vintage GMT 1675 sets are $12,000 on up, depending on condition, originality, correct accessories etc. I've seen them for less, but the key word here is "nice."

Gentlemen...you get what you pay for. If you don't like the price, move on to something that you can afford.

Nice sets on ebay for $7,000 - that I would like to see.

That first example is box and papers only, no booklets or tags. They will not consider any discount or offers either!

I would not consider either of these options, they are non-starters.

Keep your eye out on this sales forum for 1675 examples, and do some research and locate other reputable sales forums, there are a few out there.

apologies.....for non full sets 7k. To find a really nice full set.....you might see 2 to 3 a year....at best. The rest are sold before the market knows of them.

Prices for gmt 1675 n Tudor snowflakes r thru the roof. Not likely to find a really nice condition one for under 9k in today's market sadly.

Agreed. I've been on the look out for a 1675 for months and the prices have clearly risen in the past half year. Anything less than 9k for a 1675 means you are compromising on something. With box and papers, prepare to pay a premium. The sweet spot for a good condition, all original vintage GMT is around the 8.5-9k range. Anything more (box, papers, provenance etc.) and the prices are higher.

I am completely with Springer (John) on this .. you DO get what you pay for, and very nice examples with all the right gear and box / papers are in the vicinity of what John mentioned. I am very new to this whole Vintage Rolex scene, and like with my other passion vintage cars, my experience has shown that finding a very reputable dealer and negotiating at the margin is the best way to go. Good open and clear communication has been key for me. Anything less is not worth the fuss.

The prices for these have definitely gone up. They're coveted on the collectors market now.

Those who buy and sell on a regular basis will have some deeper insight than me but my observation, generalising somewhat, is that over the past 3 years, comparing apples with apples solid quality matte dial 1675's are up about 25%-30% but gilt dials are up 50-100% and with the gilt that's across virtually all Rolex vintage models. With gilt the quality of the dial seems to be setting the price more than the overall watch. Look at this one from a very good prolific seller who surely knows the market. 3 years ago I was comfortable that my 1675 w papers was worth $6k. I think the price is way up to $10-11k. 80pct increase?
