so , a bit of a blast from the past , but as im shopping ,,,,

did the 000 ever have the matte dial , or was it only ever a 00 dial fitted after , id hate to come back with a sheep in wolfs clothing.

IMO, no. The 168000 made its debut around 1988, well after Rolex completed the transition from matte to glossy dials.
