AD checking authenticity on a potential purchase
Hi all, is there a set cost for this, would any AD not get involved in a private purchase, theres probably a thread on this but I cannot see anything.
I'm in London so not a problem popping into Bond Street etc. Any experiences or feedback appreciated.......cheers |

Drop Lee Fowler a PM, I am sure he can help you where to take your watch to reputable watchmakers for inspection on your side of the pond.

Many will pop the back open and inspect the movement. Could be anywhere from free to $150 or so.

my AD would have the watchmaker pop the back off it and have a quick look free of charge to inspect any of my private purchases. One of the benefits of having a good relationship with an AD. I would say most authorised dealers would provide this service. Possibly for free. Possibly for a cost and labelled as an "appraisal".

Take it to RSC and say it's running fast. They will take it to the back to open up for a quick look and get serial numbers.if it's a fake they will hold the watch. If they give you a quote you know it's good!

My rule of thumb is simple: Any watch purchased via a private sale on the net goes to a watchmaker for verification, timing, etc. This costs only $100 where I live.

AD's have no interest in this. They should pass.

When I sold my 18038 DD the AD took off the bracelet to show the buyer serial # matched the certificate ... sale was completed, no charge.. but I gave the two ladies that helped, 40 bucks for lunch that day..
box and papers really help with resale..just sayin, if I had nothing but watch they most likely would never have helped me |
