Is this a a good deal?

http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Rolex/T...471/item/57831

Hi,

I posted something earlier but it hasn't come up for some reason. I'm a complete novice looking for a leather strapped gold Rolex within my budget of £3000. I love the look of this watch but don't know if it's a good deal, could someone give me some advice please, what should I ask the seller and does anyone know if this website is legit?

Thanks

It's not a bad price, esp. for a dealer. I think the watch looks pretty good, even if the pics are not that high resolution, and there are none of the movement, inner case back, and between the lugs (mainly to look for evidence of corrosion). But I have no knowledge of this dealer (probably since I live in Chicago and not the UK). Perhaps others more local to you can chip in.

Thanks, Adam, do you think I should ask for more detailed pictures?

More detailed pictures are always a good idea.

If for no other reason, it give a shred of proof that the watch is in their possession and not stolen photos (and I'm not suggesting it is, just giving an example)

It's expensive relative to the dollar but brexit eh? :) It is beautiful, that dial is spectacular and rare and worth more than a more common gold or silver. Are you going to see it in person?

My 1625 silver dial.

Ok, I'll ask for more photos, I don't know if I can see it in person, it's an online site I came across, should I hold off and try see one in person? They have a 14 day returns policy but I still don't know how legit they are, I've googled 'reviews' and not found any off putting ones yet. I love that watch, what's it like for service and things, i.e. How often and at what cost

Thansk

Ok, I'll ask for more detailed photos, is there anything I should be asking for, like serial numbers and stuff to make sure it's genuine? I wouldn't be able to see it in person I don't think as it's an online site so don't know if that's a no no, they do have a 14 day returns policy

This is a very credible seller with a good returns policy, they do have stores in London and Leeds and this particular watch can be viewed in their London store, as the add says.

Phone and have a chat with them, I'm sure they'll provide more photos.

I have not bought from them but have sold to them and reviews are generally very good.

I've been on their mail list for some time, they just opened the City of London location. You will be fine with seller based on reputation. Do your own due diligence of course.

They give you a 1 year warranty but that's meaningless mostly. If it's keeping good time today it will most likely be keeping it a year from now, welcome to Rolex. I was going to tell you to try to get a better price but maybe getting them to include a service might be more meaningful to you.

A fresh service usually will last 6-10 years and will cost between 500-1000 US today's money. I would advise you to spend some time cultivating a good watchmaker in your area.

I doubt they would try to sell you a watch with aftermarket parts so the interior shots would be to assess any corrosion and to check the visibility of the ref and serial numbers.

I have a feeling that's a clean watch based on the exterior. Since it has a return, if they assure you the numbers are visible and there is no corrosion, I wuld accept their word until you have a local guy check it over.

you should be fine buying from them, ive bought and sold from them before and never had any issues, i think they may actually service each watch before they sell it, i know for sure they always refinish the case, so it should be freshly polished/brushed which may or may not affect your choice with them. i have found that they can be a bit on the expensive side... but at least youve had a watch thats had the once over.

Great, I'll give them a phone, do you think this watch is over priced? Should I haggle?

Me again So I called about the watch, the salesman said every watch they have is serviced before it's listed for sale, he sent me notes from the service department, they say the watch is in good condition, they can't guarantee that the watch is waterproof (I asked why and he said because of its age), the crown works fine, the back has been polished but the serial number is visible and the strap is in good condition, I asked if it was the original strap and he said he didn't think so but It is a Rolex strap on the watch. Does everything sound ok? Should I be concerned about the fact the can't guarantee its waterproof?

Thanks

They always say that with a vintage watch, even if it's been pressure-tested to such-and-such depth or number of atmospheres...Basically you want it to be moisture-resistant at this point. Don't swim with it (having it on a leather strap precludes that in any case).

Sounds like it'd be a nice first Rolex for you, if it appeals to your tastes. I don't see any red flags.

Whence in Scotland do you hail, by the way? I traveled to your neck of the woods exactly 30 years ago!

Thanks Adam, yeah it's exactly what I'm looking for! I'm about 30 minutes west of Edinburgh, just a wee town, I work in Glasgow though. My cousin has actually moved to within an hours drive of Chicago recently from Scotland. Hopefully get out to see her at one point and visit Chicago, always wanted to go!

Thanks for your help

Hi again, so I bought the watch from watchfinder and i reveived it today, I'm just a bit worried about it, I'm at work, my fiancé took delivery of the watch, she said it's looking nice but Inbetween the lugs at 12 it says 'registered design' and Inbetween the lugs at 6 it says 'stainless steel', is this correct? I was under the impression it should have the serial number on here as well? She said the words are really faded but you can make them out. I'll include pics as best as I can, Can anyone tell me if this is a red flag or not, thanks

Congrats! Yes, serial at six and ref at 12. The wording is correct. If the numbers are illegible it's a problem.

Thanks, I got a 536XXXX serial number on my receipt from watchfinder, I phoned them and they said if they put it On the receipt it will be on the watch. It could be there but very faint, my fiancé doesn't have the best eye sight lol

That is a lovely watch in pretty good condition and I think you did well. We all look forward to seeing some wrist shots when you've sorted out a strap you like
