I've seen prolonged chlorine exposure make gold brittle. It is mainly seen in rings. I've never seen it happen to a Rolex.

BTW, the gold used in the numerals on a ceramic bezel is 24k so no worries about chlorine damage there.

A simple rinse with soap and water afterwards, as said above, is all you need.

While I'm "semi-retired" from teaching now I achieved PADI Master Instructor status and as such certified many hundreds of students to all levels of diving. That meant literally thousands of hours in pools and salt water. I've always had a Rolex on my wrist throughout and for a good portion of that time, a TT Sub. Never had any issues with discoloration or any other degradation of gold / metal (other than occasional dents and scratches due to bangs and scrapes). Big disclaimer: I ALWAYS treat my watch same as the rest of my equipment & give it a good rinse immediately after and a 10-15 minute soak daily after salt water.

I've also had a wedding ring on throughout & that's only received whatever washing my hands get (never comes off) and no discoloration there either.

Well, I think that puts it to rest! Thanks for letting us know, I don't think there could be better evidence then this.

Ahh, my apologies... I didn't notice it still said Nashville in my profile (thought I changed it) I just moved back to Florida a few months ago! Nashville is like a dead zone for Rolex lol.

I have a friend that sells on the forums (Au_911tt) but that the closest I get around Nashville really. I've also seen a few small shops that carry a few here and there but nothing serious. Thanks for the info! -Mark

certainly hope not, I spent the first day with my new DD40 swimming in a pool all day!

I did rinse it off in fresh water every time I came out of the pool though.

I swim laps a lot. I'm much less worried about the impact on the watch than on my skin. As far as durability is concerned I give the gold a much better chance of standing up to pool chlorine than skin. Make certain to shower well with soap and water after the pool, fwiw.

x2

I wouldn't think twice with going into a pool with a sub. Its meant to be in water.

I would imagine that leaving any watch in a pool for years would be very hard on the metal. Clearly that's not the situation here. I'm no scientist, but I'd say swim away and don't worry about it. AD salespeople are trained to scare you into buying another watch!
