Hey, careless, what makes you such an expert?
I have seen half a dozen 3186 Roman M-series Cokes in the last few days (new at ADs). Guess you meant just Pepsis in your Point #1, huh? Your "observations" are very entertaining. Quote:

IMO ..
I think it's the same force driving price that the Red dials did to Subs, hence the price. Time will tell. |

BTW, there are lots of people wanting to buy the last 16710s. Care to stitch up some deals for them? |

Dude, you're only info comes from sitting at your laptop. You may wish to consider that fact when you make your authoritative statements . . . granted, you said they were "observations," but how about a more rigorous approach to keeping the info pool clean? It doesn't do much good to bring unqualified internet data to TRF and pretend that it means anything.
As for posting pics: Do you think I walk around town photographing every watch that I see? Again, I suggest you lift your ass out of your chair and take a good, long walk in the non-cyber world. |

You have my apologies. I didn't mean to be unfriendly. However, I stand by my comments. TRF is a forum that exists above the waterline of most internet chatter and we are all grateful for that. Keeping TRF on-point, precise and accurate seems like a worthwhile goal. In addition to having fun and being friendly about it.
I hope to visit your country some day. Everyone here, without exception, says that it is marvelous, especially Melbourne and Sydney. Quote:

Thanks and appreciated Mark I would have gone to our local ADs, build up relationships etc if they were more customer focused. So far our local ones are all lacking these essential qualties and I'd rather buy things from Internet and from overseas ADs, which are cheaper and also more gratifying.
I do concur that we should maintain TRF's high standards. So far apart from my #1 observations, which one is not correct? Please enlighten me. |

In L.A., we have few indie ADs and a plague of chain stores. The chain stores (and some of the indies) are like used car salesmen. Simply awful. In fact, I have recently passed on a few watches that I wanted simply because the sales staff was so bad. I envy our fellows in far-away places like FL and GA, who turn up SS Daytonas whenever they want and have ADs who are civilized.
I don't have any hard info concerning your other points. I couldn't begin to guess. Although, personally, I haven't come across an M-series 16710 that did not pass the wiggle test. Quote:

What about the Z serials with 3185?? Last of the old movement. These surely will become a classic and in some ways truer to the GMT II.

In March, 2008 I was shopping for a 16710. I found every bezel variety available at ADs for the pre-price increase price of $5075. I ended up buying a mint pre-loved 16710 from 2000 with box, papers, 2 year warranty and saved $1700. All of this happened before I knew anything about the existance of 16710's with the 3186. I have no way of knowing if any of the new watches had the 3186, and it doesn't matter to me. I love the GMT-Master II, and won't sell it, so the re-sale value doesn't really matter. The money I saved can go towards another watch.
My problem now is that I have my eye on a 2004 Sea-Dweller and a 2006 Submariner Date. Both have boxes, papers etc. and both are priced the same, at $4500. They are the same but different. I'm liking the Sea-Dweller, but the Submariner is just so ROLEX.
