Ready to Pull Trigger for ROO Chrono Safari (New Model), But Wife Suggests Rolex

Guys,

Been a long time Rolex owners...and here, in Indonesia, Rolex means good investment....

Recently I ve decided to raise the bar and fell in love with ROO Chrono Safari (new model) and ready to pull trigger....

Suddenly my wife suggests to buy another Rolex instead...she says it will be a safer bet just in case we need to sell the watch....

So what do you think guys???

Regards,

Make up your own mind!

ROO is the answer! Wife is a pessimist. If you're thinking about having to sell a watch before you've even bought it, maybe you should rethink buying a new watch in the first place!

As stated previously, I Just bought a new ROO Safari.... beautiful watch Prior to my first AP purchase, my collection was entirely Rolex....my first love! I'm glad I ventured out. There's always room for other fine timepieces

I had an AP Diver. For six weeks. Went back to Rolex. AP is nice as a second watch.

Well hold on 1 second. We never think that we have to sell before we buy but some folks like to know they have Liquidity. We never know what may happen in Life, and whether or not we have another 100-500k sitting in the bank, we want to sell some veblin goods not because we need it, but because we simply want to...And Rolex is a safe Acquisition for this purpose.

How big is your wrist? The ROO doesn't look great on a slight wrist.

If your financial situation is such that ANOTHER rolex seems like it could make a difference if you had to sell, you might want to hold on to that money.

Get the ROO if you like it.

As others have said, it depends on the Rolex. Buy any precious metal model for anywhere near close to retail and you lose a lot trying to sell it. Steel models are usually fine.

I really like the safari! It's not the blingiest thing they offer, flying under the radar.
I appreciate that.

If you buy either used, I think you will do just fine if need to sell. I do love my ROO but still wear my rolexes mostly...

reading comprehension:
the question is, is the rolex a better investment incase they have to flip jewelry.

the answer is yes.

not how big is your wrist. not hey my brother has a roo, nice choice.

this is an interesting post for me. i grew up an orphan and had to work and claw my way up the ladder, pay my way through college, work 3 jobs etc.

my secret was i always wore a rolex because i knew that if i ever got in a jam i had the money on my wrist to make it right.

i had to sell my aluminum sub to survive, my pepsi gmt for a year of college, my explorer 2 when i graduated college and financial aid running out/new job starting timelines did not coincide. the worst was i had a one of a kind 2 tone gmt master 2 and the owner before me had the steel "barked" so it looked like wood. gorgeous watch i had to sell at a pawn shop in 1991 for $1500. sad huh? but that's lizard brain stuff. like living through the depression there are some muscle memory-money things. even today with a safe full of watches i calculate the value and think in the back of my head "what if...".

when i bought my 1st one it was between that no date sub and a bertolucci. someone at that time in my life was trying to sell me on the bertolucci and inside my head i said "never heard of this watch and if i had to sell it, nobody heard of it either".

the explorer 2 i had to sell when i graduated got replaced with a gold plated POS seiko or similar and i remember a girl complimenting me on the POS. i said, "what about that one with the white face" and she was like "m'eh". lol. wow!!

long post. brought me back the struggle. but buy rolex for the value. that 4k explorer 2 i bought a year after graduating college could be sold today for the same 4k. ok so 20 years of wear and money back vs. solid investing doesn't compare - but at least you're not throwing it out the window on a depreciating ferrari ;)

I don't know anything about AP or Hublot, the 2 seemingly most popular watches besides the Rolex brand.

AP's are very expensive. Hublot has done a great job marketing but.... I don't see anything special and it seems they have many models - the Lebron James version etc etc. That's weird and I feel decreases the brand value by muddying the line up.

I do like the safari roo, the dial is gorgeous.
