Question on paying for next Rolex

Last Rolex I bought at the AD was a Daytona 116520 White dial and used the 12 month 0% financing. I payed 7 months then just payed the rest off.

Now this is an AD where I have purchased 3 Rolex's from. I went in yesterday looked at a Submariner 116613LB and loved it. Since I am on a wait list for the Daytona C I want to get this watch now. Out of curiosity I casually ask about the Daytona C and he said," Do you really want the Daytona, are you serious? If I can get one here you will not back out on me." He asks which color dial and I tell him black, but I'll definitely take a white dial if they only have that one. Now I am a skeptical guy, but last time he told me this he made a call and tells me which dial do I want because they had both. I went to their boutique store and sure enough in the plastic cases was a white and black 116520.

He will have his manager call the VP today and see what could be done. I'm thinking 80/20 on the no side, but that's better than the 100% no at the other AD's I've gone to right?

Sorry, had to get you caught up. Now my questions:

I have the money in my checking account, if I do get the call what's the best and fastest way to pay them? Can I write a check? Do I go to the bank and get cash? Or a cashiers check? Wire transfer the money? What do you all do? I want a quick transaction so I do not loose the sale.

Thanks everyone and wish me luck. Could be a great day in watchland!! I know...1st World problems.

If you don't want to loose the sale, I would just tighten up your communication method. Ask the dealer his preferred method of payment.

Cash is king, or use cc to get the points then pay off immediately

Just use a credit card and go home and pay that amount from your checking account to your credit card. Its lot of convenince than drawing cash and also more protected layering as well adding you good rebates/points when using the credit card.

Some folks might not have big limit in CC but AD will easily use 2-3 cards as well for a single purchase!

They get the watch you pay for it, I'm sure they will take cash or use your CC
Ck maybe second choice

I'm weird and still prefer to write a check, but my AD knows this and doesn't mind. I also do use a CC for airline points occasionally.

use your credit card, get points or cash back/ an dof course pay before the closing date unless you have a 0% deal on the cc

Use the CC for points/miles, whatever...then just pay it off immediately.

CC or debit better than cash unless they give you a bigger discount on cash

I use my credit card and get points to spend.

I put all major purchases, except cars, on my AMEX Platinum card just for the protection I get. The points are great. I do zero out the balance every month.

I always call AMEX the day before a major purchase and tell them the approximate amount and the store name. This avoids any in-store verification hassle.

cc also gives you an extra layer of protection , and maybe insurance too , depending on the card of course.
then just go home and clear the balance online.

Ditto, I get points on everything I buy, especially big purchases.

I bought two watches off the Forum about 2 years ago within a week of each other. I wired the money both times, pretty large sums. At the same time I was about to close on a house I was having built. Long Story short it was a HUGE hassle trying to explain those 2 stupid transactions to the bank and loan officer.
Even with Email documentation they claimed it was "shady".

Same here. Reward points, purchase protection, and extended warranty. Can't beat it.

I do the same thing with the pre-purchase call, too. Great minds!

I wrote them a check and walked out with the watch. However the manager did offer a 12 month interest free lone.

+1, except I bought my car on Amex, too. They increased my credit limit in order for me to do it! Amex gets the business, and I get some cashback in December.

You seem like a nice guy, let me know how much you need, and I will print you up a few hundred bills. But seriously, I would ask if he can give you some consideration, ie discount, depending on how you pay.

Thanks for the ideas, I like the points on the card idea, I can do that. To the AD is a check as good as cash? (to ask for a discount).

If they give you 0% interest for 12 months why not take advantage of it?

A check saves the AD the percentage the credit card company charges. So, they probably would prefer the check as long as it doesn't bounce. I prefer me getting the protection of the AMEX card.

I would think you can leverage paying cash by getting something extra, maybe a winder? The AD will be saving themselves with Amex's high fees

Cash/check is better for vendor, CC is generally better for purchaser (can be a lot of benefit depending on the card).

If the discount/extra benefits you can get negotiate by paying cash outweigh the CC benefits probably preferable that way.

However, given the huge demand for the Daytona-C this may be unlikely so CC (and pay off immediately) may be the best option.

1) can you use a credit card to pay without extra %? that would be my 1st option because of the points/miles on the amex.
2) wire transfer is super easy - leave the office walk to the bank wire the $, go pick up the watch the next day.
3) cashier's check is not for me, nor is handling the cash. great way to lose it when it can be sent securely and electronically.
4) if they take a check that's the easiest other than credit card. maybe they take it and give a few days to clear before you get the watch, i don't know if they have any policy about that.

so to recap, credit card if you can without % fees for the miles points.
OR bankwire.

I have a great relationship with my AD. Anything I buy I take home and mail a check within days. This includes some hard to get Pateks & a Daytona C (on my wrist now.) I get great discounts. One small part of getting great discounts and being on the A+ list is he knows he never has to pay a percentage of the sales price to a credit card company. All part of building and strengthening the relationship & friendship. He texted me while he was on vacation that the "C" was in. I picked it up and he called me two weeks later upon returning to tell me what I owed. The relationship can be everything.

Thanks again everyone or the help. I have not heard from my sales guy. I know it was a long shot on getting the watch. I will wait a few days then I am just going to get the Sub 116613LB.
