I would say modern Pateks you need:

5711p
5131 j or r
5450p (yes oddball, but do a search).
5070p

All four can be found but each and everyone of them will be a challenging one to get.

Then get a 2499 and you'll be pretty much set.

You may want to own a cheaper watch than any of the above like a 5712a or 5711a. Both are super highly rated and you may want to have something a little less conspicuous at times..

I am also a car guy.. Tell me what cars you drive and i'll tell you what pp you need!

5711a yes agree
5131 - I'm on the fence - is it a bit of a gimmick? It's an honest question
5450 - I'm struggling with the salmon dial.
5070p - undoubtedly chick but the dial is a bit busy with all those rail road tracks

Yes. You could be set with just a 2499 - spectacular.
Does anyone know which models were made, what years, how many and what each is worth?

I think it's 349 made between 1951 and 1986 and cost $300k to millions but is that right?

Look on Hodinkee, they did a history of Patek chronographs and which ones are rarest.

I thought you wanted a 5207?

Yes I love 5207p and am obsessed with minute repeaters in general. I think the super high end is pretty soft as far as I can see so I'm sitting right.

I haven't had a PP yet, likely will start with 5712/1a but welcome suggestions.

Congrats Mark. Excellent choice. A classic modern Patek and one that will hold it's value well. Just look at those proportions! Enjoy! (and if you dig the Genta style nothing beats a 5711 in my book).

You clearly are in you modern classics and not shy of something a touch flamboyant.

I'd say something sporty and modern. Automatic wind clearly. Maybe precious metal..

5712r (the a will be too understated for you i think and 5711 too simple)
5960p blue face
5575
Maybe a 5524

This is utterly stunning. And to go along with it, you need something vintage and super refined with an 'engine' to match those 250cc x 12 cylinders designed by Lampredi.

So
2499
1518
1526
Or a 1463 chrono since you dislike too busy dials.

But it can't be a yellow metal in my view.

Nautilus range would work.

First that springs to mind is 5711p. As in: only those who know, know..

Maybe a 5524 but it's not to everyone's taste (too big in my eyes).

Can't be a perpetual chrono.

The easy answer is 5712a and maybe (slightly controversial) a 5712g. Being the least loved and sold in the range, it's likely to be the most covetable in the future.

Yes for Huayra one would need a 5711 blue/black dial

This thread has moved from building a "great collection" to a "Grail collection" minute repeaters, 5131's and perpetual chrono's. Not sure what this thread is discussing any longer!

I think we're covering lots Pateks with different pros and cons and showing nice pictures. I think the thread is pretty good actually. If someone gave you $1m to spend on Pateks what would you buy?

I'd rather have the money. Besides, where is the challenge to building a great collection with 1 million. Anybody could do it with their eyes closed.

the pulsometer scale is probably the most iconic feature on the dial of a Patek Chrono
but I guess you don't have to like it, Cheers

Isn't dreaming about what you might do part of the fun? If I had the imaginary million I really don't know what I'd buy. 1 mega watch or 3 great ones, or 5? If you don't want to play, that's ok
