The L&S is an extremely well made watch with a stunning movement. But personally I would sell it.
The reason is simple, having tried one on, I simply couldn't read the very small dials. But that is me not you.

If you want to downgrade then it's a reasonable trade. The Lange is in another league compared to what you are getting. That is also the most desirable metal and dial combo on the Lange. But it's not a crazy idea, sure why not?

I have a 5146J and a 5712/1A so you know where I stand on this one.

The 5712 is possibly about to be zapped, and its value is already > list price. It's a very hot watch. Tried on a Lange today. A watch and watchmaker I can respect, but could never love. It's all too strict and Germanic for my liking, not much romance there. |

I wouldn't make the trade. Maybe a 5205r or 5170r

I would keep the Lange. Such a fantastic watch. And just save for a 5712. Just not a fan of the 5146 and the fact that you are already thinking of a second piece to purchase gives me the feeling that you might be in the same boat as I am somewhat. Meaning: "It is a great watch but I want more." If I had that Lange, I'd be ecstatic to wear it all the time! Also if robustness is your preference, definitely go for the 5980 than the 5146.

If I were you I'd keep the Lange & save up for a 5712.

If it was a 5140 and a 5164 yes that way you have a perpetual and a travel time.

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions. Just found out late this afternoon, the local PP AD has a 5170g coming in Monday so I will go give it a try. Once it's on my wrist, I'll have a better idea if it's a watch I would wear more frequently than the Lange. Unfortunately, the AD doesn't have a 5905p for me to try on.
I have come to realization that as much as I love the handsome dial of the Lange PC, its "dressy" 38.5mm size is a tad too small to get much wrist time. Stay tuned.

Doubt you will get a straight flip for the 5170 without putting some serious cash in!!

You're right Karl. Difference of 15k if I decide to go for the 5170g

No YG or RG for me. I've owned the 5712gr and 5712r, and sold both since I found them too attention grabbing. Love the Dato - had chance to buy it before I decided on the Perpetual but the Dato's tall case and relatively narrow strap caused it to flop around on my wrist too much.

I have a 5146G and a 5712A... I wear them as daily watches when it's their weekly turn for rotation. The legibility of the 5146 is amazing and the 5712 is a very popular watch. So I would say yes to the trade... Especially since you hardly wear the ALS.
