Info from AD

A visit to Watches of Switzerland in Bond Street yesterday to ask about ordering a DJ.

She told me they are finding it more difficult to source DJ's on Oyster bracelets at the moment. A look in the windows on Bond Street and Oxford Street seemed to confirm this - the vast majority of 36mm DJ's (if not all) seem to be fitted with Jubilees. I asked because I am still not sure if I want a Jubilee or Oyster on the smooth bezel DJ I want to get - I love the Jubilee but I think the Oyster might look better with the smooth bezel.

I told her I might be looking for a silver dial and again she said not many around at present - but it was no problem as the dial could easily be switched. I was not sure that I liked the sound of this - presumably this operation would be carried out by Rolex rather than the dealer ? I would not feel comfortable with the dealer doing it. Is this normal ?

I also told her I wanted the red and black roulette date wheel. She said that if I was going for the baton numerals (which I am) then this is automaticaly supplied with that face.

By far the commonest DJ's at the moment seem to be white faced Roman numeral versions, so that must be a popular choice. But I am set on the face with baton numerals - with a silver dial and smooth bezel I think that will give the classic look that I like. My only major choice then will be over the Jubilee or Oyster bracelet.

From what I have learned about the RSC in London is that they will do a dial swap free of charge within the first three months of ownership, so I would presume that this is what she is refering to. In addition, swapping out a dial is a piece of cake for any watchmaker, as long as the AD has one on staff and has the correct hands & date wheel to accompany it, I would have no problem with that. FWIW, you guys are lucky, I would love to AD's that stock different dials & bezel inserts, but for now we are stuck with the strict rules of RUSA.

Thats tough - RUSA seem pretty strict.
