ALERT! Someone is trying to scam the community using my ID!

Just got a PM from someone who wanted to know why I wasn't being forthcoming with information about a watch for sale. Well, that's because I don't have that watch for sale, and someone is using my name to scam people.

I do not have more than one location. I am in Kutztown, PA. They cleverly altered my email so slightly, that it could be easily overlooked. I only have 1 email address jameyerfine@gmail.com. They are using jameyerfin@gmail.com

Please be vigilant!

Thanks,

Jeff Meyer

Did the person who alerted you say where the ad was posted?

I was the member in question - I posted a WTB ad and got a PM from "J A Meyer" saying he had the watch I wanted. The PM was oddly worded, but said to send him an email.

"He" wanted most of the communication kept via email and not PM and provided very poor details about himself, the watch, his location, etc.

I was about to post a lengthy message on this forum to warn people about J A Meyer this morning, but just before doing so I PM'd him once more basically saying how ridiculous his scam attempt was.. FORTUNATELY the real Jeff Meyer responded and got things straightened out.

It was very odd that the crook was intercepting PMs and using his S/N without being noticed, but people are crafty.

Take away: ALWAYS contact the seller via phone so you know who you are actually talking to, even if it's an established member here (like Jeff Meyer).

edit: There were a number of telltale signs it was a scam, but the final straw was a simple reverse google image search which turned up an ad another seller made here almost two years ago.

I wonder if it is the same scammer that did virtually the same thing posted in this thread...

Absolutely correct I am finding that out now!
Beware of anyone answering your ad who just became a member and has no posts!
