Explorer II 16570 question

Hello would like to know a bit more about my white explorer II I purchased back in 1999, there is only a 'Swiss' designation on the bottom of my dial but I've seen all other recent rolex models having the 'Swiss Made' designation on their dials, I got it from an AD in Hong Kong and it has been with the RSC for servicing so I know it's authentic but what is the difference? Thanks.

Does it say Swiss T25? If so, it's a tritium dial. Some photos of your watch would help us help you.

Itīs ok, I guess itīs a U serial. The first Luminovas says only SWISS. Then at the A serial it says SWISS MADE.

So that sounds ok for a 1999 Exp II.

Rolex changed over from Tritium to Luminova in 1998 and 1999. The first Luminova dials in 1998 said just Swiss at the bottom, and the following watches said Swiss Made..

Also, the first service replacements for early Tritium dials only said Swiss at the bottom.

My guess is that you have an original Luminova 1998 dial..

I'm with you, Jocke! IMO, watches are for the right hand ONLY. But that's just me (and Jocke).

Mine is a 98/9 'A' series Exp II beginning with 3, it has a SwissT<25 dial. If 'A' should be newer than 'U' , is this normal?

U, A, and P were all made concurrently in '97 through '99. U started a bit earlier in 1996, and A and P extended a bit longer into 2000,

So, yes, it is possible to have an "A" with Tritium from 1997, built before a "U" with Luminova built in 1998. I'll bet your "A" with tritium was actually manufactured in late 1997.

To add to this mix, I have a "T" model GMT from 1997 with Trit.. So, clearly T's lingered into this mix with U's and A's for at least that long.

Interesting stuff, Larry. From the code on my bracelet (X4), I believe mine would have left the factory in Apr 1999. I'm quite pleased I have one of the last to get a T dial.
