I had some clasp issues on my 16808, and figure it's about time for a service on this bad boy. It definitely could use a facelift, but given its age I don't know which way to go.

Should I let Rolex do their job and clean it up, or tell them to leave the case and bracelet alone?

Long story, but in a nutshell, the end holding the clasp the bracelet looks like it had broken and been resoldered at some point along the way. The pin that was there had fallen out, and needed replacement. The way it was soldered left it somewhat curved, and straight pins will not fit in. None of the local watchmakers I called had the correct bar for it in 18k. I may actually need a new part from Rolex. Additionally, it has tons of scratches from wear, which made me consider possibly having Rolex clean it up a bit.

I'm more against it at this point, but I'm reading some posts from people who think RSC won't do much damage since they know what theyre doing..

One option might be to ask the RSC in LA to just fix the bracelet issue, and have a third party, who would likely be more amenable to do however much or little you wish, do servicing of the movement.

I have found the RSC in LA to be inconsistent in terms of flexibility on what they will agree to do. They may be insistent on doing everything or nothing, or agree to more limited work.

If Rolex will only repair the bracelet then I would stick with them. But sometimes they can be difficult and in that case I would look for an experienced and reliable watchmaker to repair it.

As for polishing, if its only a first or second polish then I would have it done in order to refresh the watch.

I would let them service it and polish the case and bracelet correctly. After that DON'T polish the case. You may have to replace the clasp or diver extension. That's gonna be expensive there...but...at least you will have it done.

It looks like the hands may have already been changed so that doesn't really matter at this point. If not...no way I would let them change them. If they even hint at replacing the dial ... no way.

Never have a gold watch head polished - never. If your bracelet has been modified by someone other than Rolex, polishing same is probably a moot point, since Rolex may refuse to work on it at all.

I second this. Have Michael fix up the bracelet and leave the case alone, or at most a light touch. It looks very presentable in your photo so I wouldn't mess with it.

There is absolutely no reason not to have that case properly dressed or the bracelet for that matter. It's all rounded off already. Why not put it back like it out to be with proper lines and chamfers. Please stop the insanity. It's already been polished.
