I ask because I am buying a lightly used, somewhat complicated 5170. I have seen pictures of the watch and paperwork and all looks good. I am doing the transaction face to face in the seller's office. (Out of State for me but I happen to be there next week).

I have no reason to be believe that their should be a problem (seller is more than happy for me to come to his office) but is there something I should look for?

Assuming he has box and papers, Why not just call the AD he purchased from to validate the watch is authentic?

That's what I was thinking. The back looks fine in the photos and the fact that I will actually inspect the waych and papers before I buy is obviously great. That said - I'm not a watch-smith. Just wondered if there is anything specific?

Flywheel obviously didn't take the time to read your post. The word choice for the topic of your thread is misleading as if you are seeking advice on if this is a good fake you are purchasing. No worries! Once again, Just call the AD as they keep records of purchase history and I am sure they haven't sold more than 5 or so 5170s in the last few years as it is a watch that ADs do not receive a ton of and at a very high price point so it should be a quick look up for them.

The paperwork will have the movement number and that should be easily visible and confirmed through the clear caseback.

If the back matches this, then you’re fine.
Certificate Of Origin will include the movement number and calibre version, both of which are on one of the bridges, as you see in the image.
If it all tallies, you’re good to go.

If you want to play it ultra cautiously, assuming you’ll be doing a bank transfer, have him sign a written statement of what is being sold, for how much, and his account details.
That, along with the emails/texts should be sufficient to prevent him from pulling any shenanigans.
