secret to 300+ amplitude?
Not sure why but we regularly get 270-290 amplitude but rarely see 300+.
Details of what we are using: Varimatic on approx 10 min cycles. 1 clean cycle 2 rinse cycles 10 min dryer cycle 9010 Hp1000 MR4 Tepa RL1 Clean escape wheel through varimatic then coat in epicoat along with pallet. Run for 3 mins then apply RL1 clean all pivots with peg wood insetting jewels soaked in one dip 2-3 mins (after in runs through varimatic while mounted to balance and main plate) new mainsprings on all jobs Demag and poise balance wheel when needed What am I missing here? An experienced watchmaker suggested epicoat and insetting jewels and skip the 9010. Never tried this. Somehow doesn't sound right. |

I'm assuming you mean apply RL-2 on the teeth of the escape wheel not RL-1
Applying Epilame to the balance jewels is a bad idea, it will not let the oil stay centered in the cap jewel. And skipping the 9010 in the cap jewels is an even worse idea ![]() Why are you wanting 300 degrees so bad? 270-290 degrees is fine as long as you have more than 200 degrees in the pendant positions at -24 hours. Yes RL2.
Re:epilame on cap jewel - I thought that was weird also. Re:300 degrees - Yes 270-290 is fine but curious if there's something we're missing. It's a rewarding feeling to see 300+. We use a Bergeon Epilame bottle so there's no way to avoid getting epilame on the pivots of the pallet fork and escape wheel. We have tried coating manually but don't see a difference. |

Seems absolutely random to me, some max at 265 and some need a weak mainspring because the amplitude is too high.

Are you doing proper escapement checks and adjustments on the way down?

Do you have access to real parts? Check wear on the palet forks where the jewel hit them it needs replacing more than people think.

Never seen a fake part in these though. I did however see quite a bit of fake parts in the older 15xx movements. |

Thx all great pointers! Can someone shine light on "adjustments on the way down"? Not quite sure what this is in reference to.
