My thoughts........

I have be a SS/WG/Platinum guy for as long as I can recall. With my skin tone, I have always felt it just looked better - on me.

Now, back to watches, having been so anti-YG, I have some internal conflict about buying the TT Daytona (slate dial) I just acquired. I love the looks of this watch and don't find it too "blingy" at all, however; I'm having a bit of an adjustment period getting used to the YG. I know that all common sense tells me that the TT is a much better value than the SS (at least in Daytona terms) and I'm all about practicality, but changing gears to TT/YG is still a but of an adjustment. FWIW, I did NOT buy the TT/YG to impress anyone - heck, I owned lot's of platinum pieces, but most folks thought they were "silver", so I don't need their validation to like something. I do believe that my like for "silver" colored jewelry and watches is conflicting with strong impression that the TT models are such a "deal" right now. I was so struck with the looks of my TT Daytona I had to buy it...........

It's all a bit odd, but if someone offered me a SS white Daytona at list price, I'd consider selling mine and going SS - but I still think the TT is a better deal. I also do believe that YG is coming back in popularity. In fact, my local AD just gave me a new Rolex catalog and 8 out of 12 photos of either entire watches or bracelets were either TT or all YG. In the rear of the catalog, there are representations of 16 Rolex models, of which 9 are either all YG or TT. The cover photo also appears to be a TT (SS/RG) Datejust. We all know it all boils down to personal preference in the end.

At the end of the day, I feel pretty silly that I even spend much time thinking about it. I do feel very fortunate to be able to own any Rolex, let alone more than one. I say, "if you like it and can afford it, then get it".

Don't like YG? Great, don't buy it. Think it too bling? Don't buy it. Worry that it increases the risk of theft? Don't buy it. You guys sound like you'd outlaw it of you could.

I do find it amusing that some find their SS Rolex model to a reasonable, conservative purchase devoid of any status "message" but all others (TT and YG / WG) to be ostentatious. Pretty funny and talk about " deceiving yourself." If you're wearing a Casio and think gold Rolexes are over the top you'd have more creditability.

Of course, this response addresses the comments as I'm not really sure what the OP was trying to convey? WG or YG? Seemed to take a wrong turn somewhere.
I agree. You summed it up pretty well.

Live and let live I say, if someone likes gold, white/yellow or platinum, let them wear it, doesn't bother me why they wear it because it wont harm me, some things I like some things I dont, but that is just my opinion and not fact, I could be wrong.

I am with you on this one. I don't understand why it's so hard to believe that a person might like something for them self rather than having it to impress others. And yes that OP is very confusing.

This, in my opinion is a GREAT sentence!

Objective style is a kind of encasement of my person, a suit of armor if you will, rather than a window into my sensibilities.

Just a great sentence.

I guess I would outlaw the topic where people that don't care to wear WG feeling compelled to slam those that do. Of course, I can't do that, so I'll just weigh in on it it with an opposing viewpoint -- every few days.

No guns to anyone's head making them buy a gold / part-gold Rolex.
Why not just leave those of us that do alone? There are plenty of us.

Don't like the YG watch pictures posted? Go to another thread.

I respect someone's joy for procuring a SS Daytona even though I don't share the elation. It would suck to post in those threads saying something crappy about the Daytona don't you think? Just looking for the same treatment.

NOT to mention that it's a tired debate to say the least.
Had to read it "a couple of times"... Me too! And I'm still not sure I get it.

But in the case of the two-tones it becomes part of the design and look - wealth apart.

I've been saying this for years(decades actually), "Buy what you want and the hell with what anyone else thinks." If a pink pokka-dotta dial Gold Rolex watch(YG or WG) makes you happy then who am I to judge your happiness.

I have never heard of anyone stating that YG looks so much like SS.

Yellow Gold is unmistakably Gold and that's as it should be.

Both Yellow Gold, White Gold and Steel have their places in life!

Yellow gold, either alone, or mixed with a Silver metal is highly attractive, and a symbol of wealth, but the latter may not be an overriding factor to some people, or in some situations.

You may want to wear Gold, but not show that Gold colour, in which case White gold is the answer.

I believe White gold can be more delicately crafted than Steel anyway...

White Gold is also a good excuse for adding a few subtle Diamonds

I like YG, because, well, it is gold. Sort of traditional - comes out of the ground yellow

Easy,

I can't stand the look of YG and I sure can't afford WG...Therefore the easy solution for me is SS.

My wedding ring is Tungsten however...Which I really like!

There's an noticable difference between the feel of gold and SS watches. I've tried both WG and SS daytona. I just preferred the "feel" of the WG daytona. It just felt better for me. WG and SS might look the similar but they are definitely not the same. If SS is more expensive than WG, I would still choose WG for its excellent feel. If I have that amount of extra cash, I will buy one!

As for yellow gold watches, I can spot them even from the moon! :) . I agreed that most of the non-WIS bought YG watches for the prestige of owning one.

Whether one is buying for oneself or for prestige, the end result is the same. It feels good (although for different reasons, obviously). That's all it matters.

My 20k USD worth ..... now please send a WG Daytona over! Thank you! ::

Never been a "gold" person....never worn jewellery of any sort, all my watches (mostly Omega) have always been SS or Ti mainly because thats the way those particular watches have made thier "mark" in the world.

But when it came to buying a Rolex it just had to be a DJ and it had to be a TT with gold sunburst dial.....an absolute classic, I personally wouldn't touch a DJ all steel (for me its not what the DJ is about, or an all gold DJ either, just too NAFF...see above post ) with a bargepole, but a Sub all SS of course, not sure I even think the TT Sub is really the right choice, just not a tool metal!

I wouldn't even dream of owning a gold Omega SMP....just wouldn't "feel" right, nah......

But hey these are my opinions, and as has been said before...they are correct!

Best regards to all David

My opinion is that different watches command different metals.

Submariner, I can not think of anything else other than a stainless steel.
Day-Date - White Gold at work..and Yellow gold when Clubbing.
Date Just, when shopping, steel and gold.
Yacht-Master...I hate the darn thing in any metal.
GMT, to impress..??.. Yellow Gold
GMT in watch shows - strictly steel.

And finally My pride and joy....????
..Well my 1915 pride and joy... is in SILVER

I don't really mind those who like WG or Plat or whatever, but for ME, the subtle difference/nuances between the 3 white metals is so minimal, that for my dollar, I'd rather go with SS, although I do have a Plat/18KYG wedding band. However, the color of yellow gold is truly unique and cannot be duplicated so I love YG.

This most likely will not help, but my front teeth are TT. One is SS and the other is Gold. Got both to show off.
