No, the watch came from his father who purchased in in the 1950's, but it should be a bakelite bezel. I noticed that it said "Officially Certified Chronometer" on the dial rather than "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified", indicating that it is a Ref. 6542.

There's an excellent example on VFR and TZ right now for 26K. It has a RED/BLACK date wheel. Like the one you have it also has a T<25 dial-white and an original bracelet. Gilt would add quite a bit of value.
OCC was used on early Rolex references. The more modern SCOC was/is in essence a Rolex marketing ploy. The metal insert takes a bit away, but still a nice example. Value for any of these pieces is so dependent on condition, originality, and any "bits" that may have survived. Pricing can run from approx. 15K for one needing TLC to over 50K or more pristine with B&P and all the bits. Note: Best guess as these are always in flux. |

Took the picture at a party where the lighting was not too good. Told me friends father if he really wants to get an accurate appraisal, need to take it to as RSC and take better pics. Might be doing that this weekend.
