Need help making a decision
Hi all,
I'm looking to add a Panerai to my collection and I can't decide between two models. I'm new to the brand so wondered if anyone could offer any thoughts, tips or advise? The two I'm looking at are the PAM01359 and the PAM00631. So what says the forum? ![]() ![]() |

first question always is have you been able to try them on?
one is an auto, one manual wind....totally different. last thing, which one songs to you? auto/date vs manual/no-date

I'm ambivalent about manual wind vs. automatic as I tend to cycle my watches every few days so I'm not sure how much of a difference it'll really make. If I had to pick, I'd probably choose automatic over manual. The one that sings to me is probably this one as I prefer the more simple face.... ![]() |

Why not buy the one you already tried on? It's the best looking of the 3 to me! I waited a while to buy my first Panerai and finally went with the 422 and love it! Good luck and enjoy.

I prefer the 1359 out of the two but suggest you take a look at the 359. It's the precursor to the 1359 and a far more handsome piece.
Mine's only a few months old so could've had either but for me it always going to be the 359. Here's mine:

I would look to the 312/359 before the 1312/1359 unless the fit of the 1312/1359 were really much better on my wrist due to the thinner case or if the blue hand of the 1312/1359 was an "absolute must have".
As for the 631, I would avoid it due to the snap back case and integrated bezel. I would instead look at the 510 or, even better, the 005 or 111. Good luck with your choice and I hope to see what you chose. ![]() |

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. I really appreciate it.
On reflection, I love the 312 but I think it's got to be the 1312! I just love the little blue dial on it. |

^ 1312 is a nice update for sure, and the blue is a nice touch. One last thing to think about though: whether or not you feel the blue on the dial limits the possible strap combos....

Heres my take.. The PAM01359 has the in-house P.9010 calibre, which is automatic, and obv that means price wise its going to be more expensive around 7.5K i think..
where as the PAM 00631 has the ETA based OP II calibre movement which is a manual wind and a proven work horse, obv touched up and made prettier and modified a bit by panerai.. it all comes down to how movement snobby u want to be. Its priced about 4.3K. I went with the PAM base logo because I already had other in house movement higher end swiss watches.. like yourself with your BLNR, so i was looking for something a bit different(manual wind) and fun to wear.. I already had date, gmt, calendar watches.. so time only was fun and diff and less pricey for me. As far as retained value im not too sure of the used market but i assume the in-house calibre is better.. either way two beautiful watches. Good luck |

I actually quite like the blue dial on the 1312 and don't think it'll cause too many problems with different straps. The strap colours I have in mind are blue, cream, brown and black and I think the blue dial will work with all of those.
I also agree with the point made about the PAM 631. There is a price difference but it's not that large and I think if I'm going to spend the money, I'd rather buy something that I really like. |

Nice choice, I prefer the 1312 over the original 2 choices as well.

I'd go with the pam1312 it's a beaut !!!
The blue seconds hand is not as prominent as it looks in pics ... I'm hoping to get a 1312 once avail in UK ... |

heres my take- as the previous poster mentioned the 0631 is ETA based movement- its a much simpler movement and will afford you the opportunity to get the watch fixed quickly and affordably by an experienced watchmaker. No need to send it back to the pricey and lengthy wait that comes with the official Panerai service center.

one more thing...the 631 is not the 1950 case...or the slimmed down 1950 case...
+1 on ETA being easier to service... from your discussion..it looks like you enjoy a touch of blue... I had the 312 and with 6.5" wrist..it was top heavy...the 1312 should sit better
