Best spring bar & link removal tools

The Bergeon 6767F is in reality all you need one to remove springbars once you know how to use it. Just tape the lugs before trying to play safe!

On screwdrivers I this Bergeon set:

The 6825 and 7825 spring bar pliers are (or perhaps were) priced at the $200-250 mark. $150 for the 7825 is a bargain, that's just over the price of replacement tips alone.

I gotcha. The 7825 is not on sale.....$149.95 is the normal price at Ofrei.com. They are pricey, but they work extraordinarily well. I find that with the 6767, it's a challenge getting the bracelet back on without leaving scratches on the undersides of the lugs. It's really only useful for removing the bracelet, but even then, scratches are a good possibility. With the 7825, I don't even need to use tape. It is that good.

On screwdrivers I this Bergeon set:

*****This Bergeon set does NOT have hollow ground blades, they are flat ground....therefore NOT a good option for use on link screws

Just picked up a Bergeron from Hodinkee. Best one I've owned. Great quality and nice price.

I only recently became brave enough to try to remove the bracelet on my expII. I bought a leather band online and was given the option to buy a springbar tool for 10 bucks. I taped the lugs front and back and was done in no time.

See the picture at the top of the page for what is meant by hollow ground/curvature blade. It has a straight rather than tapered tip, so it more precisely fills the screw slot, preventing slippage and marring.
Thanks to mtgjr for posting the link above to the Horotec cut out.

No tapered blades. Got it!

I found two other cut out screwdrivers. Are these other two comparable to the Horotec link above or is the Horotec superior? I'll spend a few dollars if its better, but will save a few dollars if they are comparable. Thoughts anyone?

Great information! As a sidebar, don't let the salesperson at your AD size your watch, there's a great chance they will damage the scew heads based on my experiences and what I've read. Insist on their watchmaker doing the deed if you're too nervous to attempt yourself. They've already rung up the sale by the time they get to practice on your new watch. I don't think AD's ever think anyone will examine the screws after sizing. My 2 cents. Cheers!

I just received my Horotec hollow ground 1.6 blade to put in my Bergeon screwdriver.

While it does fit better than the straight ground Bergeon, the straight part of the hollow ground Horotec is still much thinner than the slot on the head. The blade still rocks back and forth in the head so you are only contacting the slot at 2 points. It feels more solid cause the blade doesn't want to slide up and out like a straight ground, but still not an optimum fit.

Ugh.

Many thanks fot this thread as I have been debating a Burgeon 7825 and this has pushed me over the edge and I have ordered one. A small price to pay to be able to adjust my straps without a trip to my dealer.
Thanks to everybody for the advice on this thread.
Andy.

I'm looking to add/remove links from my datejust jubilee band and GMTii oyster band. Can all of this be done with the 1.6mm from here http://www.ofrei.com/page1701.html#34354

Also, i'm looking at using their Horotec 10.501 Universal Bracelet Holder to hold the bracelet while i add/remove links. Does anyone have experience with the bracelet holder? I have seen some videos where people use bracelet holders, just not this specific one.

May I know if any of you experienced Bergeon tip or fork snapped or broken especially the finer ones? I wonder why some companies sell the replacement tip or fork by set of 10. If Bergeon tip and fork do not break easily, why sell by set of 10?

Yes, they will break if the force applied is excessive.

But there are forks sold in per sets.

PM me if you need a pair.
