New Rolex Owner Dilemma

I had been lusting after an Explorer II 16750 Polar for a while, and I found a beautiful, like new one in Hong Kong and bought it.

It was perfect - understated, almost no one realizes its a Rolex I'm wearing (that I can gather), which I wanted as I travel almost constantly, and travel in some areas that are relatively poor at times (South East Asia).

I was originally going to go for the GMT BLNR, but I felt it was too flashy. After a couple months of wearing the Explorer II, I feel like it's to indiscriminate. Sometimes (at business events), I want the watch to be noticeable.

I also recently just picked up the Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich (found one new in box in Japan). The addiction has set it.

I just can't justify having two Rolexes, especially one that will let me back $8k-9k plus the Explorer II. It's not about the cash, it's about efficiency.

So, other than "buy both" as that's still an option rolling in the back of my head, what would you do?

Maybe the Explorer II can be my "beater" watch I take when I don't want to be noticed, and the BLNR can be my occasional wear piece. But again, that's a chunk of change to be wrapped up in watches I don't wear (BLNR, Exp II and Speedy).

What are your thoughts / opinions?

My thoughts are that I prefer to wear a watch that I love to wear -- that's where I like the "chunck of change to be wrapped up", not in other people's preferences and views.

If it is not a financial situation in owning two at the same time why not get the other Rolex. Wear them and see if it is truely a situation of having too many watches. I think they can both be in a collection and get real wrist time. If not, then move one of them. Just buy right and you will not get hurt on the sell or flip.

As always, buy what you want the most. That being said, if it was me, I would sell the Speedy and buy the BLNR. Wear it daily. After a while, if you find you're not using the Ex II, sell it too. That way you'll satisfy your need to avoid waste. I know if I had only one watch, the BLNR would be it.

I'm in a similar boat as I have a BLNR and would like to add another under the radar option e.g explorer II (216570). I say go for it as they are different enough to complement each other with the fantastic and useful GMT.

If you think 3 is too much I would sell the speedy. When you travel you want something robust and worry free. The BLNR and Explorer will provide that plus having something special on your wrist. Remember, it only hurts once when you plunk down the cash, but years of enjoyment soon after.

If you like the BLNR then get it. Honestly, despite how we feel about our shiny & flashy watches. A lot of people probably don't even notice it on your wrist so I wouldn't worry about wearing it in poor areas.

Have the BLNR and the Speedy, you keep the cash expense down, conscious clear, and you're covered for all occasions. In a few months once your conscious abides you can buy another Rolex.
