GUB Glashutte Spezichron
When I got interested in Glashutte Original and A. Lange & Sohne timepieces I started to research their history and I learnt how the Glashutte watch industry fell under Soviet control after WWII. At first, I did not care much but over time, probably spurred by the modern GO 60’s and 70’s line, I started to research and learn more about the production by GUB (VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe).
After some research I decided that I wanted a Spezichron, because I liked the sunburst dial, the square case shape, the production years close to my birth year, and the historical significance of the movement (the modern GO production started with an evolution of the Kaliber 11-27 found in the Spezichron.) I patiently waited until the “right” one to show up at a decent price on Ebay and I snagged it. I do not know much about the history of the watch but it seems to be all original and in fair conditions. Timekeeping is not great but I will eventually take it to a watchmaker to get regulated. Enough talk.
