Also So. Cal. I keep mine at 68 during the day and 60 from midnight to 6 AM for heat. I don't really like to sleep with the heat on, and it's always warm under the covers. I think it's a Honeywell and learns so that it reaches 68 at 6AM, that's not when it starts to warm.

Love the automatic thermostat, thinking about upgrading to wifi so I can change it if I have to before I get out of bed.

Don't use heat. A/C is set to 82 F or 28 C. Fans help a lot and mainly use A/C to get the humidity down. So power bills less than $100/mo vs neighbors at $400 during summer.

That's a little hot for me! When I was in Palm Springs we had an evaporative cooler in addition to the AC. That thing really worked well in the desert. And dirt cheap to run. Win-win.

Personally I try to avoid AC and Heat whenever possible.
Positive Ions are not your friend...LOL...seriously.
I love fresh air but when outside temp gets above 90, I cave in and turn on AC in summer. When inside temp gets below 64-65, I will turn on heat (a little higher in day lower at night).
Usually I can do without either heat or AC for 7 months of the year here in FL and windows and screen doors are open!
I am guessing I am an extremist in this regard for wanting fresh air..Haha

The forecast here for Xmas day and Boxing Day is 40c so whatever setting I use the AC will always be running.

I am the same way in Arkansas. For about half the year the weather is conducive to open windows. In Abu Dhabi, dust and oppressive heat conspire to keep the windows closed all the time.

During the winter we keep the thermostat at 68, pretty much day and night. One of the best features of the house that we bought last year is the furnace in the garage. We keep that at 45F and all the ice and snow melts right off our vehicles. Talk about being spoiled!
