They are very popular here in Europe. I used to watch them regularly, waiting to see new items coming for evaluation.
I really liked the old man and his jokes. |

I've enjoyed the show but stopped watching it a couple of years ago because they started writing too many corny situations between the players.
Essentially the show is less about the people and more about the stuff. It's a history lesson wrapped in an entertaining package and that's what I enjoyed about it - the backstories to the items brought in. Hardcore Pawn, on the other hand, is more about the people and customers and less about the stuff, which usually is more plain vanilla tools, gold jewelry, and electronics. The only thing remotely entertaining about that show is betting on whether each customer will end up getting thrown out of the store. I give Rick a lot of credit as a businessman. Obviously he runs a successful pawn brokerage, but he didn't just fall ass backwards into a reality TV show because some producer wandered in there and decided to make him a star. From what I read, Rick came up with the idea and pitched it to various cable networks, and was turned down by more than a few before he found a taker. Good for him.
