Any other pens would be second best...

I can say with certainty that any other pen I may have presently or in the future would take a second place to the two pens below. Both date to 1989, both are new, never inked, the ballpoint has the original refill, both have all papers and boxes, etc. I have another pair just like it which I will use. It's rare when as a collector, or gatherer rather, you can achieve what you consider perfection for many reasons.

Of course, I'm not saying in any way that these pens are better than any other pen as the finish is plastic and not any kind of magic lacquer, the gilding tends to flake off, it uses a lowly converter instead of being piston filled, they are not utterly expensive, back when they were a marketing gimmick of sorts, but I would not trade them for any other pen.

I think we all have our favorites. I tend to buy pens to commemorate times and things like travel. I will usually buy a new pen when my wife and I are going on a trip overseas in order to journal the travel. That is always a joy and the pen is an excellent reminder of the time we had.

Sounds to me like the Waterman's have earned a place in your heart as well.

Yes, I usually do something similar while on significant trips. Although so far I have mostly picked up watches as mementos. However, I recently ran into a web-page with a pretty neat list of pen stores in Paris. I think I now have a project percolating in my mind.
