Need help and advice.

2 and a half months ago I purchased my first Rolex an Explorer II. I purchased it from an AD where I live. Within days I noticed the date not working correctly.

It would get stuck in between numbers and would not change smartly like it is supposed to do.

I took it back to the AD, and they sent it to Rolex for warranty service. After one month I received it back, and the date mechanism worked fine.

It has been a month since I have had it back, and now I have some type of smudge that has appeared underneath the Cyclopes. It almost looks like a smudge from glue fumes.

What I mean is if you look closely you can sort of see color in the smudge.

So I called the AD again, and they were very apologetic, and seemed to be a little embarrassed. They said they would make it right.

Personally, I am very unhappy with this as you can imagine. I have barely had this watch on my wrist for a month in the two and half months I have owned it.

I feel for this expensive of a watch these issue are totally and completely unacceptable.

Perhaps they can remove and replace the cyclops to correct this, but I am not happy at all about a brand new watch having to be serviced twice in two months.

How should I deal with the AD what should I ask for? Anyone have any experience with a lemon Rolex?

Agreed.

This is frustrating. If they will not accept a return, then ask for some other accommodation.

Some people are more immune to issues than others.....I've collected many watches and have seen issues come and go. This doesn't sound major and if the dealers are making it right I would leave it @ that...that's what the warranty is for. That's me personally though.....don't sweat it being away for a bit now, just leaves more problem free time for you to enjoy when you get it back.

I think you're well within your rights to have a replacement issued. Brand new should be faultless and this watch clearly is not.

I will ask them to exchange it. I want them to take this back, and I will pick a different one, and start over. I will let you know how it goes.

I had a lemon Deepsea. The watch stopped working intermittently. I sent it in and Rolex had it for a few weeks. When I got it back I went outside from the cold ac to the humid Florida air and the watch fogged up on the inside. When it went back to Rolex, they determined that the stem was cracked (probably during the first repair). I worked with my dealer on a refund.

Frustrating... shouldn't have to deal with that with Rolex. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would have e returned the watch the first time and asked for a new one, but that is in the past. Now you have a tougher time to get them to exchange for a brand new watch but that is what I would demand. Nicely and professionally but a new watch needing to be opened twice forget that.

Did you post here about the date changing issue when that first appeared? I ask because others occasionally have had that problem (I did as well with my GMT on certain dates) and that was an easy DIY fix, involving nothing more than manually winding forward and back thru midnight a few times on the problem days to unstick them. This may have avoided the missed time while at the RSC and now the smudge apparently left by a technician eating a candy bar while he was working on your watch.

Sorry to hear about the smudge issue. Stuff happens. Ultimately it will be made right, if not with a new watch.

Yes I researched, and found that fix before I sent it to Rolex. I ran through date wheel at least 10 times forward and backward. It did not work.

I am going to ask the AD to exchange it for a sub date which was my second choice. My sales rep gave me her cell, and promised to make it right so we will see what they say.

Good luck. Exchange sounds like a reasonable solution. Interesting you are thinking of changing models.

He is probably thinking 'Well I don't want another Explorer11 as the first one wasn't any good' I would stick with the first choice.

I love the polar explorer II, but I really loved both the EX II and the Sub Date had a hard time deciding.

I think that this time I will go for the Sub. I feel an exchange is fair to me and the dealer.

I wish I could have both

They just got it from Rolex today, had not even been put in the case. They gave me $100 coupon for my trouble as well.

Sales rep looked at the ex II under the scope and could see the spot on the cyclops they did not know what it was, but told me they were going to send it back to Rolex again.

Nevertheless, I am very happy with the Sub.
