Totally out of order....post, posts hello.
Greetings,
Seems like a great forum and I have made a few posts without intoducing myself. I relish almost all aspect of the modern watch culture that I think I see on this forum. To me a watch is a tool that one puts on his person (personal tool) so the meaning and purpose of the watch and the desired results vary wildly. At some level I try to appreciate all watches for what they meant to the creator (of that watch) and (what it means) the person that wears it. For me, as a child: a watch was my first own tool to address the outside world (not a toy). It gave me an understanding of time and it's relationship to the world (my parents). Being "on time" mattered and having functional or the best gear one could get was important...a bike (transportation) was a close second... Later, watches would need to fit a station life (maybe aspirational) or proper attire. Today, I consider myself a mid stage watch enthusiast and almost collector... In my 20's I did the new Brietling stage.. In my early 30's I did the new Rolex stage.. In my late 30's I did the "upgrade phase" (very expensive turn over - try to avoid), In my early 40's I did the vintage stage (I know, late but what can you do?), In my mid 40's I am left with little pieces of all the stages and I am leaning toward what I consider the art forms..(and I have come back around the simplicity of Rolex). Probably what I enjoy the most of my interest in watches is that it tends to bind me with interesting people all from diffrent parts of the world. I find that most semi to serious watch enthusiasts are technical, sophisticated, socially aware people that enjoy what I sometimes think of as peak craftsmanship (Patek 6300/G) and a connection between machines an themselves. I only check in from time to time, so if anyone wants info please PM me to get a response. Thanks much for your time, I hope to contribute in a meaningful manner. |
