Speedmaster - how common?
I was at a major AD yesterday. The sales guy said that the Speedmaster was selling "like crazy" and more than SMP, PO and AT. Though nice that people have good taste, I see very few of them in the wild. AT would be the one i see most I think. What is your experience?

The most common Omega I see is the Speedmaster and PO and pretty often the old Seamaster with Bond hands.

Where I live in the US, I'm struggling to think of another individual I've seen wearing an Omega of any kind. I can recall plenty of Citizen, Seiko, Rolex, and more FitBits than you can shake a stick at. There has probably been a couple but they're so few and far between they escape memory.
Perhaps that's one reason I get so much enjoyment from wearing my various Omegas. I know what I'm wearing but apparently nobody else does. |

Kind of common in military community...
I saw maybe half a dozen or so people with whom I've worked wearing the manual wind Speedmaster while working for the uS Govt for four decades and some change. I remember two Navy Captains, a deputy US Ambassador, a SOF Bn Cdr, a Ranger Sgt Major, SOF Warrant Officer Physician's Assistant, and an Australian SOF LtCol attached to our group as a Liaison Officer. Oh, and a British Army doctor I met in the Seychelles years ago.
In the various cities where I've lived both CONUS and overseas I'd say it's rare to see any type of Speedy on anyone. However, I heard that in TRF country there's a school of people who collect and wear almost any type of Speedmaster there is save for the piece that actually went to the moon. :D I did have four Omega watches but only two now - a 50th Anniversary SMP and a recently acquired Speedy 9300 on leather. The Great White GMT went to youngest son and the co-ax SMP blue GMT went to the oldest son. Love them all! |

I've seen a few (maybe 5) people wearing Speedmasters in NY, but far fewer than many models of Rolex. Subs and DJs are everywhere.

I have seen way less Speedmaster Pro 42mm than Rolex DJ / Sub, Panerai, etc.

I've been into watches since the mid 1980's, and I only saw ONE Speedmaster on the wrist of a retired professor during all that time.

"like crazy" is relative. That doesn't mean you'll see them in abundance out in the general public.

At the company I work for (400 people) there are 3 employees (that I know) who wear a Speedmaster. I also see them quite frequently when out and about here in Stockholm. Datejust, Submariner and Speedmaster common sightings.

I've owned my first one for 7 years now. In that amount of time, I've only seen 2 others in the wild. One was on the wrist of an Apollo Astronaut, but he daily wears an X-33.
Strangely, I tend to see more OysterQuartz watches (only 25k made and sold worldwide) than Speedies. Daytonas are everywhere.

It is very common among watch collectors, who account for a very small percentage of any population.

I haven't seen anyone wear an Omega either at work or when I'm out. Just Rolexes. 5 other people at work with Rolexes. All Subs.

It is rather nice, I think, that Speedmasters are rare in the wild. The only one I see daily these days is the one my wrist lol

Very, but who cares?
It's the best in the Omega lineup.

I've only seen one in the wild once, which is crazy since it has to be one of the most popular models

Well my BIL owns a Speedy Pro now, so I see one everytime we have a family thing. But yea, out in the "wild", I only recall seeing one once, on someone's wrist at Costco (maybe he got it there?).
The model I've seen the most by far is the old Bond 2531.80, and I see POs sometimes. |

I've only seen one in the wild. A fellow from Japan I met in the US was wearing an auto speedy. Not sure what year it was but he said he has been wearing it for 10+ years. I've seen aqua terras and POs. And a ton of subs and DJs
