GMT Master II suddenly running fast.
My 6-year-old GMT Master II suddenly began runiing fast, going from a gain of about 2 seconds a day to a gain of about 15 seconds a day. Does anyone know what problem this may indicate? Is failure probably imminent? The watch has never been damaged or abused. Thanks very much... Dave

Or more likely, MAGNETIZED. Did you get a new cell phone or blackberry recently? they have some pretty powerful magnets in them. Do you lay your watch close to them at night? Could be a suspect.

it might just need regulation and service- rolex recommend this every five years as lubrication oils and parts of the movement can wear away and thus the movement will not work correctly.
and welcome

I figure that it would run a lot faster if it was magnetized. Time for a service perhaps?

Make sure it's wound up all the way....
6 years in tha Arizona desert... could be the lubricants are dry, especially at the critical pallet lever slide area. Do your watch a favor and give it a good cleaning and fresh oil,,

Hey everyone. Thanks for all your input.
Based on your replies, I'm guessing that the most likely explanation is that the lubricant may have dried out. Regardless, it looks like it's time for some service. Take care... Dave |
