Dang. I had my post typed up and TRF crashed.

Anyway, here are my new boots.

C&J Galway II in dark brown country calf.

I needed a second pair of boots that could also double as rain boots. I do not like wearing my Conistons back to back on rainy days. I have always been a fan of the RL Gianni boots, but I don't like wearing my shell in the rain so these are the next best thing.

Very nice, Congrats!!

I would strongly suggest you get yourself something in Zug. Preferably either from C&J or E.G.

Yup. All good suggestions. I know AE used to have a nice range of shell colors, but not anymore. They must be taking a page out of Alden's playbook.

I know! Your zug Galways are my idea of the perfect boots. You can dress them up, but they can also be used in the harshest conditions.

I spoke to C&J about a one off MTO. I asked if they could do a zug Snowdon, but in a sleeker last and with a dainite or ridgeway sole. The sole was not an issue, but they are not able to change the last. Alternatively, I could have chosen a different boot and asked them to use zug, but then veldtschoen construction would not be possible.

How many of you are into shoes... (Dress Shoes)?

Nice Wes! These are Alden Tobacco Chamois with the commando sole. Ordered them last spring and they came in this fall.

Too bad you were unable too find something that didn't work for you, but hopefully you'll be able to find something that will in the futur if your still interested. Not sure if your willling to go the Galway route but I think this is still a possibility via an MTO. At the time our GMTO was done Supposedly E.G. Said they would no longer make Galways in Zug but I've seen a number examples where this certainly isn't the case.

I don't even want to know how much a pair of MTO zug Galways would set me back. I may have to sell one of my watches to pay for that!!

Long ago I made the decision that less often can be more. I would rather have one that I want real bad rather than two or more that will do. At least this is the way I approach things.

I couldn't agree more, however, I'd imagine that a pair of MTO Galways would be well over 2k and that is just out of my comfort range right now.

I can't confirm the actual price as I haven't purchased one in a while now but regular leather and not cordovan would be south of 2K. MTOs typically cost about $200 more than retail when I was purchasing their shoes and or boots. So there's a an extra charge for MTOs but as long as they aren't in a rare or exotic leather or top drawer it's still fairly reasonable.

I was lucky my pair was part of a GMTO so there was no upcharge. Unfortunately there no longer is an E.G. GMTO program.

So far so good. It's a bit on the oily side which is great for our wet weather here in Buffalo. Very soft and easy to break in.

Would you mind sending me the names of some of the guys who were able to do a zug MTO after EG said they wouldn't do it anymore?

I can think of one person off the top of my head now but I am certain it's been mentioned by more than just that one person on Styleforum. I'm not sure what you need their names for but you can have a look at the E.G. thread on Stylforum or you can just contact E.G. for yourself and see if they are still willing to do so and what it would cost. I think you can find their contact info on their website or get the info you need from styleforum. I would give it to you but I never had or needed to go this route as at the time it was much more beneficial from a cost perspective to go through Skoaktiebolqget. This of course has changed dramatically due to Skoaktiebolqget no longer carrying E.G., E.G. Changing their policies, and the recent brexit which makes it better to buy directly from E.G.

I have searched, but didn't find what I was looking for. I plan on reaching out to EG. just thought I'd pick the brains of somebody who went through the MTO process.

I called CitiShoes Saturday looking for some Alden NST's in shell. No luck. Just before we hung up I asked is they had any exotic shell in my size figuring they would laugh. I was shocked when he responded yes!! I couldn't get my Amex card out fast enough! I'm also a sucker for LWB's! They should be here by end of the week! Can't wait!

There are some very nice looking shoes in this thread!

Has anyone purchased from raffaello-network.com? They seem to have some good prices on some shoes. Thanks for the input in advance.

Wow, nice score. It's hard to believe that a retailer had a pair in stock.

Looking good. With my boots, I'll lace them up to the hooks right below the highest hooks (like you) and then wrap the laces once around the boots in order to eliminate the excess length.

I think so. What do you think?

It's hard to compare these to Galways (although this model is called the Galway II lol). They're at a totally different price point and the style is also quite different.

Those work really well.

Thanks for the fast response.

I love the EG captoe but, frankly, am torn on spending so much on a pair of boots. i seem to be much harder on my boots than my shoes. In the last six months I have managed to put a nice gash in my C & J Brecons and RM Williams. It hurt enough on $600 boots. I would be catatonic if it happened on a $1,600 pair.

I love these! Used to have a pair in shell and I miss them. I still have one in natty cxl on the Barrie last with crepe soles from Leather Soul Hawaii.

What last are yours on?

They are on the Barrie last. I have a wide foot so Barrie fits me well. I really love the patina that shell cordovan develops.
