Watch that used to run fast now runs slow

Hi all,

My watch (admittedly a Panerai with p9000 movement) used to run about 7-10 seconds fast but as of recently, now runs about 3 seconds slow. Not sure what could have changed this. Is this common? Change in temperature?

Thanks.

Used to?

Are we talking a week ago, a year, five years?

How old is it? When was it last serviced? Is it due for one?

You need to be more specific.

The watch is three years old. I purchased it second-hand about seven months ago. Since my purchase, the watch ran fast, but beginning 2 weeks ago, it became slow. Watch is not due for service for another two years.

Had a look at the specs and some feedback on the 9000 movement.
There have been some issues but generally the results have been good.

Given -4/+6 COSC specs and your 9000 was + 7 to + 9 and is now -3 I don't see a big problem but can you monitor it for say 4 weeks on the wrist based on your own wear pattern and post up the results?
I would be interested to see this.

I have a 231 with the Unitas 6497 movement but as it doesn't have a seconds hand or minute markers it is always spot on as far as I know....

Is the watch fully wound? Have you been using it just as much as you were before or has your wearing pattern changed?

Yes, watch is fully wound and wearing pattern has not changed substantially. Still about the same rate now: used to run about 7-10 seconds fast but as of recently, now runs about 0-3 seconds slow.

Any other factors that could explain this?

Factory lubricant could be getting thicker or gunked up so to speak. Or it could be wear, or a million other things it's hard to say. If it keeps getting slower have it taken to be looked at.

Regards.
