V-Series SD .... Any truth to rumors?
Any body waiting for V-series SD?
Is the wait worth it or by the time you know ther are no V series, the price of M series go way up high? Or Is it worth waiting and you will be still able to get M-series in the mid $5K range? thnx |

Not sure, my AD and a few others said that M will be the last one. I've already picked one up for the safe.

I don't see what there is to wait for..the SD is discontinued and there are no reports of a V SD anywhere.

I bought one recently "M" for posterity and saving... It's just too beautiful - I love it and have to wear it. I have it on right now. I like it so much... I now want to get a 16610. This Rolex thing is an obsession. I love it though.

My AD told me this week that the SD is,and has been, officially discontinued. There will not be anymore.....He went to the 2008 watch fair and has also had it confirmed by the Rolex rep on more than one occasion.....I dont think that there will be a V series SD to obtain simply because all the cases have been made a while ago and the remit is for all Ad's to seel out of the current SD before the DSSD comes into play. However I think that we will all be able to see both side by side in the window. But not at My AD as he wont be getting anymore SD's in.

My AD has just had his last SD in and has confirmed to me that they have stopped production and M series will be the last.

My AD (not the stupid one, my new one!) has also confirmed the discontinuation of the SD. HOWEVER, if our valued members where to inspect their Serial numbers, we would find out for ourselves.
To my observation it seems that M8***** seem to be the last serial issue in M. If we cannot find any SD's in M8*****, then it is clear that the SD was stopped in production quite a long time ago. I contacted my AD about the matter and he told me that if he where to receive any SD's in V, i would be contacted immediately. Hope This Helps, Luminor |

What difference does it make if you have an M or V? Serial numbers are very general indications of date of manufacture, and have no bearing on collectibility. Series is a non-issue.
The only factor in SD collectibility among 16600's would be lug holes. |

If there are tens of thousands of M series SD's, an extremely limited run of V series SD's would be highly collectible.

first, i seriously doubt there will be any v series s.d.'s. second, i also doubt that we'll see any significant appreciation of the sd's for a long, long time. there are too many of them out there to make them collectible for any reason at this point in the game. we're not talking inverted 6 zenith daytona or drsd, there are a boat load of sea dwellers out there!
i never got the whole watches for investment thing but if that's what you're looking for, modern rolex sport watches are not the place to look. |

Would seriously doubt it,all we are talking about is just a case stamp letter.Fact only difference from say a SD from 1990 and todays SD is no lug holes and a different case letter stamp makes hardly future collectable.

Hey, New to the Rolex game, which has more collectibility, lug holes or not. |

Remember guys it is not AS critical to get the last letter with this watch. Z, M, or V if they do come out... They are the same watch.
It's not like the GMT classic, where there was a movement change just before they switched to the new case. Getting the last is always nice, but condition of the watch 30 years from now, with this particular watch, will play a much larger role than z or m serial. GT |

I also don't think the 3186 GMT's are going to be collectible. They will be too easy to fake. Just buy an old 16710 and throw a 3186 in it, then sell it for $20K? Collectors are smarter than that. Look at the most collectible Rolex watches now. No one cares about serial numbers except to match paperwork and determine the general age. Condition is everything. A NOS A-serial 16600 will blow away a worn "V-serial" 16600 in 20 years. Buy what you like, enjoy wearing it, and maybe some day it will be the new 5513 or 1655. |

The price of pre-owned Rolexes will go up if the prices of new pieces keep increasing. Hence, I would think that the value of your SD holds its value better than many currencies out there,

I have an M SD and an M DSSD :)
Why an M SD because I always wanted one and thought I wouldn't be getting a DSSD for years BUT I got lucky and got the DSSD as well. All dealers I have spoken to said M is the end of the SD. Who knows... Time will tell. If it is thats pretty cool I have a SD from its last year and a DSSD from it's first year but if they bring a new SD thats fine with me as well as Im just glad to own both of them.
